Starter Ring Gear Pooped itself: GOT HER BACK(Sat 5 Apr)
« on: March 16, 2008, 07:42:09 PM »

Ah Ha ha,
I swear, this 07 SE Ultra never ceases to amaze me!   Now the darn Starter Ring Gear has grenaded itself and I can only
hope that there was no damage to the starer and its parts.  Glad I got the bike running to get home from work on Friday.

Another trip to the Dealer I go, Oh boy, never thought spending this kind of money would allow me to be in the dealership so much
for reasons that I don't want to be there.  There has got to be a way to get an EVO in this frame, I know there is someone
out there that has done it, please show your face and ideas to me, Haha, OH well, Hopefully will be done by Myrtle Beach, another HAHA

Is there an aftermarket company making Starter Ring Gears for the 07 Bikes??  I would definately like a stronger unit in there if my other choice is
the Harley "Stuff".
Thanks for the help

Be sure to have them check the ACRs when you take your bike in for the r-ring job -- btw look on the lighter side of this -- you get a new clutch!  (clutch basket with r-ring is one unit now).

At least you should be able to pay the difference (about $90) for the chrome upgrade...

You may want to check Compu-fire I think they have a ring and pinion to help start the bigger motors, I know they had one for EVO's used it one time and it worked great. The ring gear came with bevel headed bolts, you grind the revits out of the old one and bolt on the new one, then change out the starter pinion works like a champ.

Sorry to hear about this. Have your dealer check your compression releases. I know they are supposed to be automatic but if they are not working, a big inch motor can do a lot of damage while trying to crank.

Be Safe

Called all over the place and no one has the gear on the shelf for the 07s.

So the call went to the dealer this AM and will be dropping Big Red off this Friday.
The following will be taken worked on during this visit:
-Head Gaskets(again) :confused5:
-Cylinder base gaskets(weren't replaced the first time) :nixweiss:
-Starter Ring Gear(hopefully the starter is good, but if not, gimme the chrome one!) :pepper:
-Rocker Boxes will finally be clearenced(loud as F*&# and sounds like a kid banging pans!) :furious3:

So hopefully I can get it back fairly quick.
More to follow!

Here is the latest and greatest from the Dealer on the head gaskets.
"Harley MoCo has a new set of head gaskets out and there is no part number for them" :nixweiss:
I think I remember reading someone else posted that info not too long ago on here.
He said they are of course on back order and hard to get but thinks he located a dealer
that has them and is trying to get them quick so my bike won't be in the shop too long.
The ring gear, he said they need to tear into in to figure what is up and going
on in that part of the bike.
LOL, man, this is fun...NOT!!!

Has he called HD Tech Services directly to request the new gaskets? I thought the only way to get the composite gaskets was to get them sent to the dealer directly for a specific warranty repair. I don't think they are ordered like a cataloged part.
