It looks like Illinois residents could use some help...
« on: March 17, 2008, 06:11:40 PM »

I received this e-mail from a friend today:

Subject: Please Help put a stop to a complete firearms ban in IL

Larry Suffredin and his cohorts on the Cook County Board are up to their old tricks again.

In order to justify passage of gun control ordinances designed to close all gun shops and ban and
confiscate most guns owned by citizens of the county, the Cook County Board is conducting a
telephone poll where callers can vote for or against the gun control ordinances.

Like everything else in Cook County, this poll is probably rigged. So, it’s very important that you
do the following:

1. Call 1-312 -603-6400 and select Option #1 when prompted. At the next prompt, select Option #1
again. Then, when prompted to vote on the gun control ordinance, press #2.

2. You should also forward this alert on to all your gun owning friends and have them vote too.

3. You should also post this alert to any and all Internet bulletin boards or blogs to which you
belong.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT OF COOK COUNTY TO VOTE!

This is kind of dated and maybe no longer is an issue......

Quote
CHICAGO, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by
the ISRA Political Victory Fund (ISRA-PVF):

Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin's distant 3rd place finish in
Tuesday's Democratic primary race for Cook County State's Attorney should send
a message to the Cook County Board.  The message in Suffredin's defeat is that
the people of Cook County want no part of Suffredin's extremist plans to
abolish the law-abiding citizen's right to own the firearms of their choice.

Suffredin, who made gun control the centerpiece of his bid for Cook County
State's Attorney, has sponsored and cosponsored several controversial gun
control proposals now before the Cook County Board.  Among other actions, the
proposals would suspend the home rule authority of villages and cities in the
county; ban the ownership of revolvers, pistols, nearly all rifles and most
shotguns; and force all firearm retailers in the county to close -- including
the multi-million dollar Cabela's superstore in northwest suburban Hoffman
Estates.

Suffredin, who also serves as a board member and lobbyist for the state's most
active gun control group, has forged ahead with his plans to abolish gun
ownership in Cook County despite widespread criticism of his proposals.

"Larry Suffredin dismisses hunters, sportsmen and other lawful firearm owners
as nothing more than criminals waiting to happen," commented ISRA-PVF
spokesman Richard Pearson.  "Throughout his campaign, Suffredin tried hard to
turn the voting public against good citizens who own firearms.  On Tuesday,
Suffredin found that his tactics actually turned the tide of public opinion
against him, thus delivering a humiliating campaign defeat."

"I hope that the rest of the Cook County Commissioners watched closely Tuesday
as Larry Suffredin crashed and burned," continued Pearson.  "If any of them
are foolish enough to support the anti-gun measures that doomed Suffredin,
then they may well find themselves on the bottom of the heap along with him."

The ISRA-PVF is a political action committee affiliated with the Illinois
State Rifle Association.  A copy of our report is available for a fee from the
Illinois State Board of Elections, Springfield, Illinois.

Not sure why you are concerned about gun control in IL. when you live in OR.??  It's probably going to come sooner or later.  Just a sign of the times.

Keep your eye on the Supreme's (court, not the singing group) for the most important development.  After decades of sidestepping the issue, they are considering a case concerning Washington D.C.'s handgun ban.  A decision is expected sometime in the June-July time frame.

As I read it, it looks like we may finally get a decision about whether the right to bear arms applies to individuals, or just to "well regulated militia's".

The Constitution of United States of America guarantees that the people have the right to bear arms. Whenever some liberal government official feels that they have the right to infringe on our Constitutional rights I am concerned, it doesn't matter what State is affected.

Watched/listened to a lot of that hearing the other day. You're right this will be a very interesting decision. Only way they get my guns from me is to pry them out my cold dead hand.
