Tour pak flag tape
« on: March 18, 2008, 08:53:59 PM »

The tape that came w/ my T/P flag is gone w/ the last bike. Any recommendations on a suitably thick, sticky, clear tape to prevent the scratches? Thanks.

What about the 3M tape that is on fenders up under seats? I would think you might be able to get a small piece from your dealership cheap (free). :nixweiss:

I got some at an auto detailers place of business.  3M sells this stuff in rolls to them.  It is advertised a clear bra for cars.

Try a body shop, they often use a similar material to repair the stone chip protection material used on car rocker panels and wheel lips.  If you can't find the original type of material, you can also try my method.  Go to any office supply store or Target and look for a roll of 2" clear packing tape by 3M (142L is the number of the stuff I use).  It isn't as thick as the original, but it is thicker than the other cheapo packing tapes and it is perfectly clear.  I replace it whenever I have reason to remove the flag, and so far it's working fine.

I have tried to get that stuff before. The part number is in the parts manual, but it ain't anywhere near free. That chit is EXPENSIVE!!! The piece that goes on top of the rear fender runs over $20.

It's MUCH thicker than the 3M paint protection film I use for scratch protection and is a whole lot tougher too.

I would go the 3M paint film first and if that isn't tough enough, the thick stuff can be had for a price.
