K and P Oil Filters?
« on: March 19, 2008, 01:33:43 PM »

Have any of you guys used a K and P oil filter on a 110" ? How do you like it? I know there was a dude that got one that is a member here that has a cool HD tattoo on his shoulder as his avatar.
What is the part # for a 110" Chrome? On their web site , all I could find went up to a 06 TC. Had the part # S4 . Would this be correct for my 07 110"? The cost for chrome is $174.00

I know this topic has been hashed out several times. What are the pros and cons of these filters?

Thanks,

Just buy a K&N filter for around $12 and it will be more filter than you need.  And if you service the bike yourself, it is easy to R&R..

Maybe you don't understand what a K and P oil filter is??  It is a lifetime oil filter...  There has previously been debate as to its effectiveness - but if you believe in the design - it is very cost effective.  I have used this filter on two SEEG's and currently have one on my SEUC.  I am very pleased with it and believe it is a very effective filter.  I change my oil each spring and fall - and every 3K - 4K miles in between.  I havn't bought an oil filter in about 50,000 miles worth of oil changes....  Personally, I recommend it!   :2vrolijk_21:

I use the K & N now. The K and P looks a lot better. And is LIFETIME.  How many oil filters will you buy  over a lifetime? BTW, You all have already
proven that you have more money than sense. You bought a Harley!!! That goes double if you own a CVO. All of them are way over priced for what you get. Taking into consideration what you have to do to them after you buy them to make them right. But, It is our money right?  I think they sound like a good filter, And they look awesome! Hell, I think I will buy 2. One for each CVO! LMAOAROTF! :cherry: :cherry:

Well, I'm sure that most of us here could be accused of having more money than sense at one time or another.  Hell, if I had more sense than money I probably would'nt be riding a motorcycle, so I am thankful for that affliction.

First, to answer Jester's fitment question.  My buddy has an '08 SERK with a 110, he bought the same model that I have on my '03 SERK, and it fits fine.

I have had the K & P filter for some time now, and have gone through three or four oil changes with it.  Here are my pros and cons...
Cons
None that I can see

Pros
Looks cool
Provides some measure of additional cooling (you 110 owners should love that)
It is a permanent filter, never have to buy another one (hey, maybe I do have more sense than money!)
It very easily comes apart for cleaning and you can visually check for bits of metal or other signs of engine trouble.

I love it, most of my riding buddies have it and they love it too.  And the guy with the 110 really loves it.  Oh, and I bought it from a local indy and pait $150 for it (DAMMIT, more evidence of good sense).  O.K., I'm off to count my money.

Someone needs to finish developing the true better mousetrap here.  A lifetime filter that is a truly effective but non-restraining filter that manages to effectively drain out the end first to avoid the mess.  For that I'd trade 103's bike (but just one of them).

How is that filter cleaned without introducing the contamination to the discharge side of things? We are talking about extremely small contaminates.

Thanks John

I clean mine with clean solvent and compressed air.  A can of spray "brake clean" would work also...

That makes sense. A container of solvent that you rinsed it in would become contaminated immediately. A spray can

of solvent on the otherhand would work well.

Thanks John

Thank You SCRM-R for the info! Surely anybody that owns a 110" that has any sense will have to have one! ( No Offense) I am gonna buy Two,  one for each CVO.
