Howdy from Fort Worth, TX.
« on: March 20, 2008, 09:06:12 AM »

Been riding my whole life, but have been riding Metric "Performance Cruisers" for the last several years.  I signed for a 2007 Screamin' Eagle Ultra Classic today, pick it up tomorrow.  I don't have any pics yet, but here http://www.hdtrader.com/display/more.asp?inventoryID=74523 is a link to one that is "identical" to it.  Picked it up from Longhorn Harley in Grand Prairie, but I live in Fort worth.  I am really, really pumped.  It is bone stock.  I have a TON of questions.  This bike has left me cash shy, but I am looking for some slip on's and would like some advise.  I am partial to the BUB's, but any input is apreciated.  Will I REALLY need the ECU flash with just slip on's?  This is my first dresser, well the first one that came that way.  It has ABS and NAV with CB, but I highly doubt I will be using the CB.  Any input on the nav?  I am kind of doubtful since it is just using the LCD on the stereo.  Again I am really excited, cannot wait to get it in the garage!

Welcome to the site, TD!   :2vrolijk_21:

Texas native here - born in central TX  then lived in Arlington for 19 years & now in the Bug Infested Swampy Tourist Fleecing Jungle State.

Bike tends to run hot due to it being too lean from the facotry - lots of people have modified ECM's to correct this.  You may wish to consider a SERT or Power Commander or similar.  A Stage 1 air filter is not that expensive & it helps it breathe better, too.  I have true dual Rinharts on mine - made by Bub. Bub has some new true duals that I would consider for mine now.  Slip ons are a good idea if you do not like stock exhaust - even my wife noticed it was puny.

You are right on the GPS nav in the radio - it's a POS that is also a waste of time.  I use the CB some when riding in a group but usually ride without it.

Tons of stuff here to spend money on consider as future modifications.  Lots of great posters with more info than you can imagine. Enjoy!

Trickydick,
Welcome to the site glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21: In regards to your exhaust question best thing to do is try to hear as many different exhaust on bikes similar to yours (110ci/Dresser). Ask if you can sit on the bike w/it running or stand in a position that you can have your head (ears) as close to a normal riding position as possible so you can tell how the sound is going to be for you. Some mufflers will be louder then others and you'll want to find something that will be comfortable for your riding position. If you will be riding double a lot you may want to have your passenger w/you so they can hear the pipes also having them sitting on the bike or head close to their normal riding position. You may also want to stand behind the bike to hear how loud the pipes are just in case you live somewhere that would have noise ordinance issues.

You mention the bike you are getting has ABS and I thought ABS just came out in 2008 models. :confused5: You may want to confirm that is correct.

Many have found the Nav system lacking in functions and have added aftermarket units (Garmin Zumo). You can take a look at the Electronic Toys and Gadgets board to find many threads on the Zumo and other GPS devices.

All,
Thanks for the welcome, and to all those that are local we will ride soon!  I am currently a bit jammed as far as time goes, I am taking the new bike down to New Braunsfels for my final check out dive next weekend.  I am getting recertified on SCUBA for a trip my wife and I are taking to Jamaica in May.  I did not mean to come off like a moron with my exhaust question.  I know I prefer the sound of the BUB slip on's, I was asking what slip on's perform the best.  My "other" bike puts 101HP and 121FP to the rear wheel, and while this bike is amazing, it is not nearly as fast as my other one.  That being said, this bike is everything I have been wanting in a bike for several years.  I wanted a full touring bike, and considered everything out there.  The Goldwing is pretty much the ultimate in touring, but it has no real soul(but damn they are fast).  I briefly considered one of the BMW K bikes, but to go along with the lack of soul, I absolutely HATED the way the K1200LT rode.  It was like being on a couch and the suspension completely took away the entire motorcycle experience.  I rode the Victory Vision, but could not get past the overall look of the bike.
SO, the short list is Slip on's, shorter antenna and some sort of pouch for the windscreen.  Of ALL the things that this bike has, I am suprised that it does not have some sort of garage remote built in, I will make due with a mini-remote that I have been using on my other bikes.  Any and all suggestions are welcome!  I have read about the J&M shorties, but was looking at Item number 200207862181 on eBay.  Anyone know if they perform as well as the J&M?
