Tight rods
« on: March 22, 2008, 03:42:16 PM »

:o Well they had all the parts ready to assemble and found that rods were pinch tight and now we have to wait to talk hd monday. Do i get a new crank or new motor? My clys are bored perfect, super valve job on my heads, and a motor man who is a perfectionist to put back together .I'm thinking I'd rather have a new crank and know what i have then to get another motor and start over.I guess if i didn't trust the motor man it would be a new motor. Stay tunned monday will find out from hd. ride safe jdo

If you go with the new crank, do yourself a favor and have it trued and welded so you won't have to worry with it in the future.

Go with the new crank and have them replace it with an S&S forged crank. Then get the Timken conversion done to the cases. You should only have to spend the difference in the cost of the HD crank and the S&S crank, and the cost of the Timken conversion. Everything else should be on them. Match up a nice cam, and you'll have a new motor, with some get up and go, and one that should hold up as well. After all, this ain't rocket science!!! ;)

i agree with all above,  sometimes hd will say alot of them are tight and you just dont know it unless you take it apart,  just insist and thay will relent.  good luck and happy motoring.
