What causes the excessive heat problem in the 110s?
« on: March 24, 2008, 05:19:15 PM »

I'm curious what percentage of the heat problem is caused by the following:

Cams (lack of overlap)

Head design

Air/fuel ratio

What do some of you heavy-duty gearheads think?  -If I'm missing a point or two, feel free to add items.

I'd throw in the restrictive air filter and exhaust......all driven by EPA mandates. Wonder when they'll tackle private aircraft noise and exhaust emissions too :nixweiss:?

It's the AFR and the restrictive AC and pipes.  After I swapped out my pipes and AC and had the bike dyno'd with the SERT, my 110 operates at about the same temps that my '02 88ci ran.

two main reasons.  first ,very big bore with thin cylinder walls.  second, lean ,lean, still lean and will always be lean until you ad a sert or other inrichning device or tuner of some sort.  my two cents

Bikes either.

I definitely buy into the "Big Bore" theory, but I'm not a celestial paleontologist.

Two more factors:  Global Warming (higher ambient temps) and riding too slow.  I understand Howie doesn't have that last issue on his.

He also  thinks that one can solve the other.  Ride fast enough and you can outrun global warming!

I've been reading this thread on another forum: http://www.hdforums.com/m_2836828/tm.htm
Makes sense to me, think I'm going to give em a try for $79.99.

I saw these online too, and have been wondering how many of the guys have tried them....

I like the idea that if you happen to be dealing with a dealer that questions your on modifications, nightrider claims that they it is hard to tell that these are installed....

I used them on my '07 CUSE2 as well as my '08 CUSE3.  In addition five of my friends with either an '07 or '08 use them.  We all have the same opinion and results.  Our bikes run better with minimal loss of mileage and we all have reduced head temps averaging 30 degrees.  A very good product for the price.

Pay attention to the install warning.  These are resister bridges and may be damaged if bent in the middle; handle with reasonable care.  They're not fragile, just use reasonable care.

It seems for the price as well as the ease of installation this might be the way to go until I am ready to make major changes...

For a while all I think I want to change is the odometer reading, and maybe a set of slip-ons,

I put the IED's on my 08' 110. They seem to help and it runs great.

If I started a business selling carbon credits to 110 & 96 owners, would that solve their problems?  It would be good for the environment as well.   :nixweiss:
