Im sorry but I was a ChampCar fan.  The Earl calls it a unification but Kevin Kalkhoven just plan sold them out.  It's always about MONEY..  The Dallara's are ugly as he## compared to the Panoz DP01 and an open wheel car has to have a turbo V8..  The last Champcar race will be a few weeks in Long Beach (while the Earl is in Japan)..  Long live Tony George and the Mindy 500..       :soapbox:

Open wheel racing will in North America will be stronger with the unification - so I am glad they worked things out - sellout or not - but I gotta agree these cars need turbochargers.  Nothing beats the sound of a turbo Indy Car...

If that doesn't get you excited, nothing will.  I know this is a transitional year with a lot of growing pains but time will ease the pain.  Hopefully they can get a few more engine and chassis providers to keep things interesting.

There was nothing wrong with CART (Championship Auto racing Teams).  They ran on super speedways, one mile ovals, and street and road courses.  A well rounded series.  Was great from 80-96 until T George wanted to be the Bill France of open wheel racing.  He owned the Indianaplis Speedway and basically said if you wanted to run my Indy 500, you'll play by my rules or else.  That's why there were 2 series from 96 til now.

George's goal was to make it more affordable to everyone to race.  Didn't happen, still takes money/sponsors.

Champcar RIP 1996-2007

Its all about the cost of what it takes to race these cars, as always the high end teams will always dominate most of the time, just ask Foyt.  :soapbox:

You may have answered the question no one really asked.

Open wheel racing has a long way to go in the United States to get back to where it was before the geniuses decided to have two leagues.

Now they need to get on the horse and get open wheel racing back to the stature it had then.  If you put that kind of pass on here for NASCAR you know what the reaction would have been.  I'm not promoting one or the other, it just shows what the marketing has done for NASCAR vs Open Wheel racing.

The genius was/is Tony George.  He's a friggin' IDIOT.  As long as he owns the IRL and the Speedway, I am doomed as an open wheel fan.

There was nothing wrong with it before the 96 split.  Before split:

Chassis manufacturers: Lola, Reynard, March, Penske, Rahal, Guerney to name a few.

Engine manufacturers:  Ford Cosworth, Chevy Ilmor, Mercedes Ilmor, Toyota, Honda and even Buick.
