110 Engine
« on: April 03, 2008, 01:58:38 PM »

It seems the more and more I read in here that the 110 has been having problems ........must be the reason why I see the SE's at local dealers not selling?

I'm glad I rarely trade my bikes in for a new one. If this keeps up, the 110 models will have quite a bad rep. Thanks MoCo

Yep, and what does that do to your re-sale value?

I had an early 1999 TC and paid close attention to the failures. I heard of some, but it was nothing like the failure rate of the 110s.

I haven't seen any screamin eagle's sitting around at dealers unless they are trying to get over msrp. Most are pre sold or sold within days of arrival. My dealer is the largest selling in the SE US and they never last more than a week. In fact,a SE Springer just sold on ebay used for more than what I paid new.

Most problems seem to be with Ultras. My buddy had his motor replace on his non SE 96" ultra at 5000 miles, and others I know had engine failures on older models than that.Lets face it,Harley has never had a reputation for reliability, which is why I bought an extended warranty for the first time on anything in my life.Never seems to effect their sales though.

My Indy was telling me that they quit align boring the cases, their wisdom says...Naaaa. we don't need to do that anymore, let's cut costs some more, never mind the integrity of the unit. ...all we want to do is run up the stock prices......That's why they are having crank problems....Greg

The POS 110 was never designed properly. They will ALL do it eventually. If you have the time and patience, get the extended w.....ty and keep going back and forth til they get sick of you. Otherwise these are great bikes. Build your own engine and FTF & FTW!!! Claim your bike and your life back from these greedy bastards!! >:(

Hoist,
I couldn't agree with you more. I'm on my second head gasket oil leak repair and the first sliding sleeve from the MoCo and I will not take it back for another. Not only did I have to have the leak fixed but I also had to repair the scuffed paint from their careless underpaid mechanics. From here on out I will do my own repair work, this can't be rocket science it will just cost some out of pocket change to do it right.

On the defense of the MoCo they did extend my factory warranty for one more year because of all the trouble, for what that is worth.

I'm on my motor # 4, my dealer has it down to a science, the last 3 motors were crated and sent back to HD and HD trans-shipped a new crated motor when the dealer notified them of the failure. My dealer works 7 days per week, thus, motor failure to riding out of the dealer with the new motor is 4 days.

Damn shame when a dealership has to take pride in how quickly they can replace a motor but the MoCo can't (won't) fix the original problem.

Very frustrating times for the MoCo, dealership, and customers.

What has been the failure on the motors, all the same or different each time?
