License plate placement question
« on: April 04, 2008, 06:19:24 PM »

The placement of our License plates(in Ireland) on the 'CUSE just looks WRONG. The plate should be under the tourpack & not on the Fender. The problem is - when I move the license plate, I am left with big holes in the Fender. Anybody got any good ideas as to what I can put here?

*I have attached a pic to show what is like at the moment. All suggestions welcome!

TIA

Hello, I see what you mean, but you have options.  You should be able to unbolt the lower license plate bracket, behind it you will find a hole. Option one, US versions have a bar and shield emblem that covers the hole, or you can mount a fender tip light from a domestic (US version) and wire accordingly. The fendertip light uses the same hole you will expose when you remove the lower plate bracket. ( Hope this helps )
                                                   Good Luck

Unforch, it won't help you.  Unlike the US bikes, HDI models have the standard FLH fender under the big ugly bracket, with all the standard holes, not just the one the cloisonne gizmo covers.

You need to fit a fender tip of some description (Jacques' is a good example). Here's what I have on mine.

If you go with that sort of thing (fender tip I mean) and move the number plate up to under the tourpak, remember you need to change the rear light lens too, to get the one with the clear window for number plate illumination.

The alternative, if you want to stick with the plate down there, and keep the big ugly plate up top, is to get the kit from HD that makes it neat down the bottom instead of that big ugly thing we get.  See it
here

Thanks for the advice guys! - I did not realise that there was that difference between the US & European models. I guess I will be going for the fender tip light, maybe with LED's.
Eqcons - I love those lights you have on the saddlebags!

I have an extra fender tip if anyone is interested. Tip only, like pictured above.

Funny how everyone on the other side of the pond moves their plate up and over here we move our plate down. I keep waiting for someone over there to go radically opposite of skycuse2 and mount one on top of the pack!
