Well the Grand Prix was a little more than a race for me this year as I was put to work on AJ Foyts team. Race Day was overcast with the skys threatening to open up... and they did.
The race was started under yellow as there was section of the course that were under water. I was maned on the fuel tank "Deadman Valve" during pit stops which is a safety valve that has to be opened manually to allow the fuel to flow. Foyts driver Darrin Manning was up to 4 early in the race because of strategy pit stop to change to slicks from rain tires. Because of the quick drying up of the track , he was able to overhaul the cars on rain tires so fast.
Next pit was 4 tires and fuel and had a excellent stop but was cut off and nearly crash with Tony Kannan.
The race was limited to 2 hours and with 10 minutes to the #14 car lost a gear box, lock in 3rd gear for the remainder of the race, so finish 13th.
Not many pics because my photographer Helen was remove from the pit box at the start of the race.
After the race I volunteered to help tear down and load the truck and the skies realy opened up then. Man I'm Gettinold and I can tell cause It wore this old man out but I loved every minute of it. Thanks to my good friend from Coldwater, Mich. Craig Baranouski, AJ's team mgr since 1987 for asking me to help out, and a special thanks to AJ himself for putting up with my BS.
