08 cvo ultra opinions
« on: April 05, 2008, 10:11:54 AM »

I just took delivery of mine about a month ago. This is my second CVO first being an 06 Ultra, but 103. My question I want to change out exhaust of which I chose Rineharts, been happy with them to date. Biggest concern now is using the PCIII and maintaining the O2 sensors. The PCIII home site states you can,but does not suggest whether you should use an alternate map instead. PCIII site does not specifiy a true mapping for this bike with keeping the stock ECM. Anyone to date experineced this as of yet? I do not like dynos and the WOT runs they perform all sinched back in straps. So on this 30 grand plus venture not going that route. Not wanting to mak the bike radical or anything just wanting better sound and for that option I imagine something has to be done to allow for the adjust in exhaust.

Any opinons or advice would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

My Power Commander came with O2 eliminators, should I use these and what are they?
On bikes that use an O2 sensor in the stock exhaust have a closed loop area that can not be adjusted by the Power Commander alone. If you make adjustments with the PCIII in the closed loop area the O2 sensor will sense these changes and the ECM will alter the fuel curve accordingly. If you want to have full fuel control over the entire RPM range of your bike then you will need to bypass the closed loop area which the O2 eliminators will accomplish. If you are looking for the best fuel economy and not worried about making changed to the closed loop area you can leave the stock O2 sensors connected and still make changes outside of the closed loop area with the PCIII.

I copied this from the Power Commander website. Under F.A.Q.'s This is why I am thinking I can keep the sensors in and then still tweek the bike some. To date only the exhaust is changed, yet I think the bike needs more fuel delivery when cracking open the throttle. So to achieve that I would need to do away with the O2's or just wait until Zippers or someone else comes out with something. How about the SERT? ANy users of that?

The Power Commander does not use O2 sensors.  Power Commander supplies "O2 eliminators" to install at the point of the stock o2 sensor plug.  The actual sensors are removed and plugs are installed into the pipes. (at least, this is how the 2007 SEUC works - I believe the 2008's are the same...

There are two versions of Power Commander, the street legal version and the bad boy "off road only" version.  The street legal version doesn't allow for adjustments in the rpm/throttle position ranges where the emission rules apply, and the "off road only" version only allows for adjustments in those ranges after eliminating the O2 sensors.  If you want to keep the sensors, the only change you would be able to make with either unit would basically be at wide open throttle and high rpm.  The rest of the time, which is probably 98% of the average persons riding, the PCIII would just be along for the ride and serve no useful purpose that I'm aware of, which then begs the question "Why bother?".  I personally believe the best approach is to use the bad boy version with the eliminators and then have it tuned by a good tuner.  The next best approach would be the bad boy version with eliminators and a canned map.

They don't show a canned map for your exact setup, but there is one that is fairly close that you could use if you don't want to go with a full tune and custom map:

M818-017  l*Advanced Map*, Screamin Eagle 105th Anniversary edition, Vance & Hines true dual headers, Vance & Hines Classic slip-ons, Screamin Eagle air cleaner, Fuel table 1 is front cylinder

I have the same scoot with the PCIII, Stage 1 and Rinehart Tru Duals and the bottom end sucks. Spent 6 hours at the dealer while they attempted to Dyno to no avail the bottom end. So they end by telling me that PC told them the failure is vehicle specific?!?!?? WTF!? So they say we'll swap you a SERT no charge and put me back on the ECM till the SERT comes in. So in a word I am no help-maybe after the 26th I'll have more info
