My day with Twolanerider and John Golden.
« on: April 06, 2008, 09:42:07 PM »

It's Saturday April 5, 2008 7:30 A.M. Bubba and I hit the interstate for a 3 hour tour, ah drive, to Joplin MO.
I have the banana bike in tow on bubba's trailer. We arrive at Cycle Connection HD at 10:35 A.M. We meet
Twolane there. When we leave there, we go eat at a good chinese food resturant. Twolane picked a good
place to eat. Now it is off to see John Golden and let him work his magic on the banana bike. This is where
it gets really good. My bike had the stage 1 kit from Harley on it. It is a SE air filter with K&N filter, a set of
SE mufflers with billet end caps, and stage 1 flash in the ECM. Dyno was 86HP and 93ft-lbs Torque.

I installed a set of V&H true duels and Rush mufflers with 2.5 inch baffle. Now it does not run well at all.

John Golden puts my bike on the dyno and his base line run is 89HP and 96ft-lbs torque with fuel WAY
off, all over the place.

He installs Power Commander and makes several pulls. 45 minutes later he is finished. And the final results
are, drum roll please,

101.90 H.P. and  107.46 FT-LBS TORQUE.  Needless to say I am very happy with the results. Remember
this is a totally stock 103 inch engine, no internal work done!!!!!

I now ride it to Twolaneriders house (we take the long way).  All I can say is W. O. W.!!!!  It now jumps
to 100 MPH. Yes permanent smile and I giggled like a school girl all the way to his house.

Bubba rides it and I think he likes it. I ride Twolanes SEEG and well,it feels like a torque monster. Can't wait
to see his final numbers. Bubba and I load up and head for home. We stop at another HD shop on the way
home.  We finally get home around 8:00 P.M.

In summary -  got to make bike better,  ate a great meal,  was with GREAT FRIENDS,  saw new things and
new places,   I cannot think of when I have had a better day!  Many thanks to Don Cary, John Golden,
and my old friend Mike. :bananarock: :bananarock: :bananarock:

I know this was long but thanks for reading.

It was a lot of fun watching you watch John and watch your bike.  It was even more fun seeing your face everytime we stopped on the way over to the house.  Your grin was around back behind your head when blew past me on the state road chasing triple digits.

Glad it was a great day.  I certainly enjoyed it.

What Mark didn't mention was that not only was he seeing great numbers he was seeing plenty of them early.  I think it was just over 85 ft pds of torque by about 2500-2600 and it never lost any from there.  That sweet spot for the highway of 2800-3200 was great.  His yellow SEEG is going to be a lot of fun to ride.

Did him one disservice while here though.  Let him ride the SEEG to feel the Traxxion Dynamics work on the front end.  If he's lucky he was still so giddy over getting his dialed in so nicely that taking that little ride won't cost him any more money.  No matter what though, Mark was a happy camper yesterday.

Glad you had fun.  See ya soon.

Did John do the SERT map you provided when you did the 575's (several mod's ago)??

No.  If Golden had his way crosses and silver bullets and wooden stakes would be thrust through every SERT package.

It's not that bad actually.  He doesn't do the SERT.  He's not as familiar with it.  Though he's now planning to spool up with it sometime sooner rather than later and start working with the SERT.

His biggest issue hasn't ever seemed to be the inherent capabilities of one over the other.  It's the time one takes over the other.  He can do a very good job of knocking out a Power Commander tune often in an hour.  While a SERT might take three or four or five times that long.

When his bread and butter is rolling bikes through at a rally event it's easy to understand why he works with the unit he does.  He has said that, even when he starts tuning with the SERT, he may very well not tune with it when on the road.  Only for scheduled work here at home.

That SERT map you asked about came from a surprisingly good tune from a regional dealership.  It was bad timing on my part so I lucked out getting what I did.  John had just busted his old dyno.  Billions and billions and billions of miles on it (perhaps I exaggerate).  There were a few weeks dead time waiting for arrival of a new dyno and then its installation.  That's the only time I've gone elsewhere though.  And it was to someone John recommended.

Don, thanks for elaborating more on my experience on saturday. As far as the dyno goes I was
expecting 97 to 98 hp, hoping he could get 100hp out of it, was very happy with 101.9. I am
going to call it 102. Torque, I was hoping for 100 to 105, so I was very happy with 107.46.

John Golden is the best I know of with a power commander and a dyno.!!!! My bike starts
perfectly, runs flawlessly, and has a lot more power all the way through the rpm range.
If you live within 500 miles of him and run a pc or want to run a pc you MUST have him
tune your bike. HE IS THE BEST. PERIOD.

As far as don's bike goes, the only thing similar between my bike and his is that they are
both 2005 SEEG models.  His suspension with Traxxion and Bitubo's is much smoother than
mine.    With 575 bars and a corbin seat and backrest his bike is much more comfortable
than mine.  His engine is much more powerful than mine and his exhaust is quieter than
mine.  I was excited, now I want to cry. I concede defeat.  Don you are " the man".

Mark, I liked your yellow bike just fine.  And by the grin you were still wearing when you left it obviously runs well enough to please you nicely.  That is the only thing that matters.

Bars and seats and other bits can be bolted on.  No big deal.  Happy with what you got is big stuff.  Everything else is just details and rainy Saturday afternoons.

Don, don't get me wrong, I love my bike but always a work in progress. Will make
more mods later. After riding yours I am going for comfort next. Love the bars and
seat combo, very comfy. Thank you for letting me ride it.

Any time Mark.  We're close enough to the same length it seemed likely my seat and bar combination would be good for you.  Those bars are so much better than the stockers.

If you bite the bullet and get a Corbin seat figure out what you want at Corbin's website but order it elsewhere.  Can save some significant coin.  Close to enough savings in the seat purchase to cover the cost of a set of handlebars if you shop well.

Mark glad you had a great time with John. He is better that the best with a power commander. He is the one who got over 120 hp out of V' Girls V rod. I have never seen any thing like it. He is well know and very respected throughout the Harley commintee.

He actually tuned the go fast Dyna that "V" loves so much.

Have fun with your bike. I know that this is only the first step. Now it is time to think about cams.
