Joe Minton's choice of Kerker slip-ons
« on: April 07, 2008, 02:12:53 PM »

Joe Minton has been recommending the following slip-on mufflers for quite awhile.  In the June '08 American Rider Magazine he gave the part number for these mufflers.  Here's a link to the product: http://www.supertrapp.com/product_sections/detail.asp?CatID=13&ItemID=128-78045
has anyone had any experience with them?  How loud are they?  etc.  -Inquiring minds want to know.

There a little quieter than the old SE pipes but still to noisey for me. I replaced them with the new 4 inch SE pipes . They sound great . Really low tone and I can hear the stereo at 80. I get about 98 lbs of torque out of them with a 95ci motor.

Not much good for those of us on this site if it doesn't fit our bikes.

Good question. =Really doesn't make much sense to me.  Mufflers are mufflers, right?  ::)

Actually having those installed on the 28th of april with a full dyno--have SERT already with HD A/C. Will post my thoughts as it relates to sound and performance. Had Rienhardts initially installed but the sound was beyond my AARP tolerance level-must be my age or someting--too much, too much--always seem to enjoy the "middle of the road" sound with the Supertrapp.

I've heard that the only reason the catalogue excludes the CUSE bikes is because the EPA required the Moco to put catalytic converters on those models ... something about the 110" motor required the cats?!   Apparently these mufflers will work just fine -- but Harley can only recommend pipes that conform to the EPA for each model.

I installed these pipes on my 08 CVO ultra this past week, which has the SE Tuner, SE AC, and full dyno ( came in at 92hp, 109 t), pipes too damm loud. Anyone want a good deal on these, they are your yours. The sound at 75/80, was horrible. This is my 6th FLH, and struggling to find a "happy medium pipe". I am now temped to go with HD screaming Eagle out of catalog. Had Reinhardt's from the initial delivery, but pulled them immediately.

Did the same as DavidB mentioned had the SE Pro (P#64985-07A page 541 08 parts book) installed.
The reason they say no for 07-08 FLHTCUSE is an EPA CYA for the MOCO.
I have them on my 08 FLHTCUSE3 and they sound good at idle, initial take off and you can hear the radio at cruising.
I have the other SE slip-ons (discontinued) on my 06 Road King (95ci w/ SE high compression pistons and heads 255 cam) little too loud for my taste now.
Hope my 2 cents helps.

Thanks for the feed back on the HD SE pipes in the 08 catalog. This is my next move--will be my third attempt, but love the bike so it is worth the pain to find the right mix on making it "mine".  A few items left like a Russell seat, Progressive 440's,, Clearview shield, everything else is ready to go. Also installed the center ride off stand, nice touch for sitting on the bike on main street in Sturgis. My 31st year attending that rally. Been getting many comments on my "Root Beer" CVO.
