I thought that was a main dish!! :huepfenlol2: Not to  :beatdeadhorse: but if history is any indication a "10 yr" wait may be very optimistic. Until the electorate "gets it" there will be no improvement in our system of checks and balances. There are many in positions of power who have, so far, benefited greatly by the current state of our economy.  :soapbox:

One of the main beneficiaries of the so called "greenies" have been the oil companies themselves.  After they figured out the game & the way the rules were rigged, they set themselves up to play it & play it they have.  Then the so called "greenies" scream & yell "tax 'em, yadda yadda".  They are already ahead of that curve also.  Oil companies are not dummies - they understand profit motive & know their business is cyclical in nature.

Politicians, both parties, have lined their pockets using this issue.  They have also concentrated power using this issue - a most effective wedge.  The belief in not drilling to solve our energy problems is basically an insane religion.  If that worked, we would stop drilling aquifers & tapping reservoirs to eliminate water shortages.  Makes no sense, but that is where we are on petroleum currently.

Hi Guys

Were paying £1.30p per litre  =  $2.45 goes up every week

3.79 liters = 1 gallon

$2.45 X 3.79 = $9.28 per gallon :o

Maybe I should stop complaining about $3.64 per gallon here in Oklahoma :nixweiss:

This is ridiculous!  Gas is starting to cost almost as much as bottled water!  :nervous:

More, I pay $2/gallon delivered to my door for bottled water.

And I get waaaaaaaaaaaay better water mileage than LD does gas mileage

Usually go through about 3 litres a day when I'm on a road trip

LD burns up 15 gallons in an average day

Fed Gas Tax is 18 cent a Gallon, The states add additional 18 - 60 cents- per gallon- Also Some local counties and Cities add additional Cents per gallon so that is way the price will vary From State to state (within the state) and your big Cities.

If there was no Money to be made then the gas supply would dry completely UP. Like it did in 1973 and 1979. The price of fuel was Fixed (Regulated by the Fed's) for those years, SO NO money was to made so we ran out of FUEL

BTDT.

Hmmmm 18 cents tax per gallon.

We pay the equivalent of about $7.68 Tax per gallon in the UK. OK our gallons are a little bigger, but I think you get the picture.

Nige,

I don't think people realize how good they really do have it here in the U.S. Now that they are seeing what it is like to be the rest of the world, you would think maybe they would chit back and appreciate what they do have but instead we act like Paris Hilton when daddy takes her charge card away and throw a temper tantrum.

I think it is time for Americans to evaluate their actual necessary expenditures and live within our means. and maybe that means no big suv, or spinner rims, or god for bid I say it a motorcycle.

Just my two cents people not directed at anybody, I just hate it when people have a since of entitlement to something that really isn't theirs....

We got it good yeah, but we worked hard for over 200 years to get there. And we can do what we can afford because we're free to do that! If every American doesn't appreciate that, then I agree. But nobody needs to give up anything they don't want to if they can afford it.

But questioning our politicians and big oil is not bitching like Paris Hilton. It's what makes us special, knowing we somewhat have the power to cause changes. Nobody likes rising prices, but it's a fact of life. We all make whatever adjustments we need to. But knowing we live in the greatest and strongest country on earth at this moment, and are free to ride our machines, doesn't make me feel entitled. It makes me feel special, and awful lucky to have been born and live here! :2vrolijk_21:

Actually, when you break it down, the cost of gas is all the same around the world.  It's just whatever other program the governments are financing by adding taxes to gasoline.  The Europeans have to pay for that social medicine somehow.  That comes in the form of higher taxes.  If/When Obamasamamama becomes president, you're going to see our tax base go up to pay for his "programs of change" whatever those might be, as he has not given me a clue yet as to what his "change" is all about, except fluff words.

1. Speaking strictly for myself; I realize as much if not more than anyone "how good we really do have it here in the U.S".

2. Yes...We as Americans are seeing more and more what the rest of the world is like...Ya know what? I don't like it...We are not the REST of the world...We are Americans; the country who has given freedom with the ultimate sacrafice by many to the REST of the world so if our politicians who sell us out and all of those who want to be in the so called "New one world order" want me to live according to their rules after our sacrafices...HELL NO! I'll throw a BITCH till I die!

3. Paris Hilton...that Bitch can KISS MY ASS...and her daddy and his CREDIT CARDS too.

gottao go take the kids ...I'll be back to finish this later

As a rule we avoid the subject of income on this site. We all share a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and that is our common denominator. I have to believe however that not everyone on this site is well off. Probably most of us aren't. Simply working stiffs that get up every day and go to a job probably on average a better job than most, but a job nonetheless. As a percentage of income, the cost of gas is really starting to become an issue. My wife and I are spending $150 a week just on gas for our vehicles. Where does it end, what is the solution ? I have no answers. We are a free market economy. We pride ourselves on it. We preach captitalism the world. And yet we have public utilities because water, sewer and power are essential to the well being of our citizens and our economy. Is it time that we nationalized our oil companies ? That smacks of socialism in a huge way and I'm sure is anathma to many many people. But what's the answer ? We've yet to see this wave crest and break in huge increases across the entire spectrum of our lives. When we do, when inflation runs into double digits, what then ? What's the answer ?

I ride my MC - saves me a ton over my F150.  The SERK is getting 35ish (need to dig into that more) and my KLR gets 50ish.  I ride rain or shine - that is what I have done to adapt.

But actually, I would do that anyway.  I hate driving.
