spider, we are on the same page.   Demand has driven the cost up globally.  If we (USA) take care of us first and not send what we are getting out of the pipe line to Japan and become self sufficient than the price has to go down.   What I am saying is a short term solution, long term we (USA) need to find an alternate to oil to get us around.  Short term this financially effects everyone and will drive up inflation.   I lived through the early 70''s and don't want to go back to gas lines and odd/even BS.

FYI
I just went off on my own rant. It really wasn't directed at you personally. I'm surprised given that most farm equipment is diesel and of course semi-tractors and just about everything used to produce nearly all consumables in this country that we haven't seen huge increases already.

Anyone been wondering how those folks in India, China, etc. are able to keep increasing consumption as oil prices double and triple?  Subsidies from their governments, financed by the huge revenues generated by all those jobs we exported to them.

Subject: Gas Price Relief Plan

OPEC sells oil for $128.00 a barrel.

OPEC nations buy U.S. grain at $7.00 a bushel.

Solution: Sell grain for $128.00 a bushel.

Can't buy it? Tough! Eat your oil

I had the same idea about all the desalinization plants we built in Saudi so they could have pure drinking water. Shut them down and let them drink oil!!

Sounds good (in theory)  When they get hungry, we could probably work something out with them ;)  And if they don't want to deal with us, we could always distill the grain and use it for fuel.

went to buy a couple hundred feet of garden hose. whipped into lowes and the price was outrageous. went down the road to ace, same thing. whipped into dollar general and guess what-----------it was even higher!

common thread was-- fuel prices have driven up prices on everything.

well, after cussing everyonethat would listen, my point was that in each case, the hose was coated in months of dust. now if months of dust had settled on the hose, it told me one thing-- gas prices had nothing to do with price of product going up 300-400 PERCENT. greed did that! my opinion is since everyone can use the excuse of fuel rising to raise prices, they have free reign to rip me off.

lets look at this. a semi loaded with product has to pay a 30% increase in fuel costs, so the market rises 40 % to account for energy costs. OK, no prob, but when the retailer does an across the board price hike of 400%, i will never buy from them again!!!!! and everyone is using the same excuse!

BTW, yesterday, on the way home from getting parts, i passed a house that had around 600 feet of garden hose at the curb for garbage------------yep, i loaded the hoopty and am now watering my garden with free hose. i will watch the market to see if shares dropped. anyone wanna take the odds?

OH, got a really nice rain today, sure am glad i didnt drop my drawers for the jacked up hose. POETIC is it not?

They say great minds think alike. I just went outside and check both front and rear hoses  :)

We're good. JJ and John Madden can buy their own gas.

Dennis I agree with your logic.  I'll apply it to the current fuel situation.  How can the the price change daily at a station that gets it's tanks filled weekly?  Or at most, every couple days.  Hasn't the gas in the ground been charged to the station already?

In my profession we pass along price increases and decreases as they occur even though we have a warehouse full of product.  This is not uncommon and is a basic principle of economics.

Can the price go up on an invoice for product the retailer has possession of before the invoice is paid?

No...at least in my business...pharmaceuticals...we receive notification of any increases or decreases the day of the event at which time we past along to the customer.

This does not allow us to take advantage of the notification up or down.
