FYI, I was in Charleston this afternoon and filled up the VW wagon with diesel for $4.53. I saw it as low as $4.51 in my travels.

Latest news in the good old UK is that the government is thinking of making the tax on fuel a flat rate per litre rather than a percentage of the pump price. This would obviously give them a guaranteed revenue per annum rather than a huge windfall as the prices go up - on the reverse aspect if prices fell then they would still receive the same amount of money.

Around 12 months ago the UK government would have been receiving around 60p ($1.20) per litre in tax revenue. As at now they are receiving around 86p ($1.72) per litre. You would think that with all this extra revenue being poured into the coffers they would be giving us some extra benefits in other ways - strangely enough this doesn't appear to be happening.   :o

Nige,

One thing our governments have in common - when they raise taxes, they find ways to wastefully spend the added revenue very quickly.  Some here would like to see a huge tax on gas similar to your $1.72 per litre.  This would not balance our budget, but it would build thousands pf "pork palaces".  Our politicians do this to buy votes, legally.  But at least we are not forced to pay prince Charles dry cleaning bills also....  ;)

We still have ours, but honestly, it does not get many trips out of the yard, and it was never purchased to work hard. It's only job was to look good.

Been there done that!

Those were the good old days if taken literally "filled up for $4.53."

You should be able to get 40mpg if you ride without riding too hard.  Is that both in town and highway?  :nixweiss: It seems to me that lately the gas is not as good or something has caused mine and others gas mileage to be less than before.  :-\ spyder
