Now $5.41 here for a US gallon. $1.42 per litre.

Diesel $6.27. $1.65 per litre.

Thes strengthening Dollar is killing my plans for a 2009 holiday to the west coast of the USA. I had budgeted on around £4,000.00 which would have given me about $8,000.00, when I came across earlier this year - now I would get less than $6,000.00 for my £4,000.00.

Guess y'all need to come across here.

ISKI,

is it NW Florida or is it Tourist Hell I mean Hellando......    2.19 up here in the Sanford Area

But the diesel is still breaking the bank :(    raw fuel and it costs more dohh

Unbalanced - Stopped at a 7-11 at the entrance to Champions Gate (near the 27 exit on I-4) just south of Rattyworld & unleaded (87) was $2.06. 89 was 2.29 & 93 was 2.39. In the airport area prices ranging mostly around 2.15 or so for 87.

Cheapest gas in Tallywacky is 2.06 at a Chevron on Monroe St.

I just saw $2.22 at a Roeseville Arco this morning. Heard rumblings that it could go below $2.00 this winter.

Gas is $1.99 a gallon as of yesterday in the northern boonies of Florida.  Below $2 in such a short time.....

I DEMAND a congressional investigation!  Politicians told us gas would be $5 a gallon by Christmas.  It's not even Thanksgiving & gas is below $2.  Where is the outrage?  Why is oil trading in the $50 per barrel range?  Do the oil companies need a bail out to protect them against severe deflation?  Huh?  Huh?

I expect to see some DC capitol hearings with congresspersons screaming nonsense about stuff they know so little about (oil/gas).  An oil dipstick has a higher energy IQ than many of those bozos.  Gas will never be below $3 again and other hogwasheries of goofiness just a few weeks ago........

And our NOW 82 cent Canadian dollar will be very close to or at par with the US greenback for the seeable future. These boneheads doing these predictions don't have a friggin clue. We are at about 80 cents per litre of gas. It WOULD NEVER be below $1.00 again. I have more faith in the weather forecast. eg. very cloudy today with a good chance of sun. However no chance of rain or snow although the chance of precipitation could be as hoigh as 80%. WHAT CRAP!

The various prognosticators keep forgetting to insert the greed factor into their formulas, where greedy bastards kill the goose that laid all their golden eggs.  All they had to do was look at a little history from the 70's and 80's to predict what we are seeing now.  Energy prices rise dramatically, helping throw the world into a major recession.  Demand falls, artificially inflated oil prices collapse, and we see relatively low oil prices for the next 15-20 years.  Most efforts to conserve and/or find alternative energy sources die, policy makers and consumers forget the lessons of the recent past, and we start right back down the slippery slope again.  We are already seeing the same affect, with many alternatives like wind farms losing viability due to relative cost.  Until this country develops a real energy policy, we are destined to keep repeating this little bit of history until we finally use up the petroleum and find that we haven't invested enough in alternatives.  IMHO, the current situation is the perfect time to increase the motor fuel tax to both keep the demand (and waste) from soaring again and to fund infrastructure maintenance and improvements that have been allowed to languish.  Perhaps X% to infrastructure and the rest to alternative fuels research?  All I know is, throughout my automotive career starting in the 70's the fuel situation has left us in an untenable situation.  Look to the future and design fuel efficient vehicles, and then go out of business because customers want bigger and more powerful not small and efficient.  Or design and build what the consumer wants, and then go out of business when the fickle consumers stop buying because fuel costs double.  Either way the end result is the same.  A proper energy policy, including variable fuel taxes to keep retail prices from swinging so wildly, is the only way I see to change the boom or bust system we have been living with.  Now if we could just trust the Feds to set up and administer such a policy without turning it into just another money grab for the rich and connected.

Jerry. I agree with you completely (which is very hard for me to say since I'm never in agreement on additional taxes).  However, this would only work in a pure and perfect world where taxes aren't stolen to make up for shortfalls in other programs.

Paid $1.84 per gallon two days ago at Safeway (our Safeway has a detached gas station in the parking lot, the deal is for each $50.00 worth of groceries you buy, you get .10 off per gallon.) Yes, I had .10 off...

Exactly - Nobody had a clue and these are the bozos in charge of our gummints.  Trade deficit for the US is much better now that our economy has tanked, & lower oil prices will further decrease the trade deficit.  Of course with a stronger dollar, the advatages to traveling to the US are lessened - such as the differences in cost that Nige posted about when comparing prices just a few months ago to now using dollars.

So instead of drilling & developing the naysayers will say yet again nuh-huh can't drill since oil is sooooooo cheap now & the cycle will repeat.  It's dumb & would be mind numbing, but through the years watching this repeat it's nearly amusing, except for the hardships the fuel spikes cause some folks.  Could be prevented, but doubt anything will be done as history repeats itself over & over on energy.
