Rear LED Lamp Strobe
« on: April 09, 2008, 10:38:17 PM »

I installed a Radiantz (bought from Custom Dynamics) programmable strobe module for my rear lights. It is definitely eye catching. It strobes all rear lights on the bike 3 times at 10 strobes per second, then 3 flashes, then solid for a few seconds then starts the sequence over. Unit comes without wire ends, bought a male/female HD rear lamp harness plug combo with pins (about $10), ran all eight wires straight, in effect made a jumper harness and tied the strobe into the appropriate pins then just plugged it in. Took about 10 minutes and made the lamps impossible to overlook or ignore. I have all LED's in the back, 124 in taillamp, 46 in each turn signal, 40 on light bar above taillamp and 100 on back of tourpak. Strobe effect is amazing.

:2vrolijk_21:  05Rider:  I put strobes on the rear of my bike and they are bright.  I bought the 4-lite halogen strobes at the same place the Police get their strobes.  I got the red ones and have two mounted on the rear under the travel pack.  I programmed the lights to alternate flashing.  They definitely get your attention.  Easy to install and wire.  I'll get a picture of them and post it.  Had to make the rear of the bike brighter after getting hit from the rear by a drunk driver.  I think the lights were $50-60 each and come with a 90 degree mounting plate for each light.  I used double sided sponge tape.  Holds great.   :huepfenjump3:

Are these things really safer than stock :nixweiss:

I saw a set on a bike the other day....well when they started their blinking, it caught my eye and before I realized, I almost smacked the guy in the azz.

For me, I will keep the stock ones....don't want to give any distractions to others.

I installed the Kuryakyn LED panacea tail/brake light and signal lights on mine.  The brake light "only" flashes three times before staying on and I believe that is more than enough.  I wanted an attraction as opposed to a distraction.  I do believe the LED's are a good safety improvement in that they are so much brighter.  Well alright, they look pretty cool too!  I also like the idea of the signal lights staying red until you hit the switch at which time they turn amber.  I'm not knocking the strobe effect, I just tend to agree with a couple of the other folks that it might attract too much attention.

AJ:  I will get a picture of mine installed and post it on the web site.  Then you can make up your mind if you want to go that route.  After being rear-ended by a drunk driver doing in excess of 70MPH and I was doing 40, I want my tail end lit up as bright as possible. On level ground I let off of the brakes, but I want anyone following me to know when I am slowing down or stopping.  "I didn't see you," will no longer work if I am hit again from the rear.  I can get you a phone number, or I can buy them and send you the lights and bill.  They are easy to install.

Ken, I've got a source for the Whelen lights and I did see them installed about a week ago. I love 'em. One of the local HOG members works for a company that outfits the local emergency fleets. Not sure what the price is. Did you get the bracket from Whelen or did you make it yourself?
As soon as I saw them I knew I wanted a set. They may be a "distraction" to some, but I want everyone to see my backside.
