I know you are not supposed to strap down at the handlebars but there does not seem to be a good way to strap these bikes down due to all of the fairings. Any suggestions?

I use soft straps around the lower tree and than hook my ratchet straps to them. Since I'm in an enclosed trailer I run a strap around the front crash bars to the E-track in the walls. On the rear I hook my ratchets to the underside of the bike right below the transmission and pull backward. I also run straps from the rear crash bar to the E-track in the walls.

(I'm on the office computer so I don't have pics. I'll post some tomorrow AM when I'm on my laptop)

So the lower tree straps you run forward under the front fairing?

I tie mine down with soft ties around the fork legs above the fender mounts.
No taxing of the front suspension with that.

At the rear I tie to the passenger pegs.

So with the bike sitting in a wheel chock and 4 tiedowns is not going anywhere!

21 years ago when I moved coast to coast with my then Virago standing in the middle of a Ryder truck. I used Four points on the center stand and 3,500 miles later zero issues. I used the ratchected nylon tie downs with the rubber coated S hooks. Two from the handlebars forward and low to pull the bike down on the front shocks and the two rear pulling opposite like a 4 point hammock. Same therories should work in a trailer or pickinemup truck.

Yes that is how I do it. For me I want suspension collapse. I don't want a dancing bike it the trailer because it still has suspension movement. Allowing the suspension to move may work well if there is a lot of room. I have bikes within inches of each other and I CAN NOT have any movement.

(just finished jogging, I'll head home now to the laptop for pictures)

I use a WheelDocK with one strap through the front wheel and then a strap on each passenger footboard pulling the bike forward.  Never a problem.

I lay mine on it's side.  The chrome on the bike keeps the paint from being scratched badly.  A couple well placed cinder blocks keep the bike from sliding around too much also.  Good luck.
