Head gasket info is a conspiracy!
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:19:10 AM »

I am now convinced that HD is either actively squelching the 110 problem or the employees are just clueless. Yesterday while accompanying my buddy on a new bike purchase we ended up at Harley World :nixweiss: -Destination Daytona, my buddy had his heart set on a Thunder mountain firestone, the salesman said they had a 08 just traded in and it was in the service dept for oil service and prep. I asked if he was aware of the 110 issues, he indicated they don't see any or hear any problems with the 110. While at this dealer I visited with numerous employees in sales, parts, service  because the place is so huge, the  staff is well insulated from each other, all same answers hmmm don't know about any 110 issues, and these guys sell a pile of SE bikes and other customs with 110's.

So we asked to see the used 08 bike, proceeded to service, tech was working on the bike, and i asked him what kind of oil change he was doing with heads off :o, the sales guy is like oh just prep, he quickly guided my buddy to another bike, i stayed and visited with  the tech. Says yeah head gasket failure has been an issue and he is only aware of 1 design change and has no problem getting them. Obvious to me he didn't want to get too deep into convo on the 110.This bike had 2000 miles on it.  My buddy ended up with a new Thunder Mountain with a 110 and an extended warranty with my insistance.

Although i have not had any issues with my 110 yeeeet, plenty of folks have

The MOCO doesn't want or like any bad press. We have a master HD tech on this board. He just got back from Milwaukee. He did tell me there is a problem and the MOCO knows about it. The problem is in the sleeve of the cylinder. IT MOVES!!!! Yep that what I said. When it moves it causes the blown head gasket. The MOCO is working on the problem. I don't know where the cylinders and made or who makes them.

The Moco rep I spoke with last week stated that cylinder liner problems are far and few between. Then went on to explain to me that I should keep in mind that I have to take into account that some bikes with these problems have been modified so much that they do not resemble Harley motors any longer. My motor has "been modified so much that it does not resemble a Harley motor any longer".  Of course the modifications occurred right after being the recipient of one of the "far and few between" rear cylinder oil leaks.  I think perhaps the Moco rep has the sequence of events somewhat confused...   :nixweiss:

Soooo.... What about the failed stock 110 motors?   :nixweiss: I just sent back recently a stock motor and had it replaced by MoCo.

I guess the rep can say all he wants too about the cylinder liners. If that is the case then why are they talking about it in some of the classes in Milwaukee????

The wife's SERK should be ready for it 3rd Head Gasket set and 2nd set of Liners and Pistons when we get back from Sedona. Also another valve job??? Maybe tihe problem is it still looks like a Harley Engine. I now for a fact it leaks like a Harley 110".

Well, I have been reviewing this site for a few months now and have only posted a couple of comments. But today I do have something to say. After all the comments regarding the 110" gasket problems on this site, I talked to my dealership about this. Of course they said on more than 1 occasion DO NOT believe everything you read online. Most of it is B**S***. Stupid me. To the point now; I purchased a '08 SERK back in September 07. Put approx. 1100 miles on it last year, which is good considering the weather in Canada. This year my first ride was March 10th. This weekend, April 13th, with great weather for 2 days, I rode 300+ miles. Got home tonight and thought for S**t's and giggles I would take a look at my rear cylinder head. Guess what! A small oil leak is starting with 1725 miles. WOW. All this talk on this site and my dealership says it is hogwash. What a joke. Now they will have some explaining and repairs to do, just in time for the warmer weather and riding season to start. Thanks MoCo for the grrrreat engine. Much appreciated.  :nixweiss:

They have a problem with this engine. I don't know why they just don't find a fix and do a recall on the motor. This is very sad. I know a lot of people wish the MOCO would of stayed with the old 103. It was a very good motor.
