And what won't go in the trailer would surely fit in the fairing lowers.

In those pics you can see the main difference. The 2-up fully supports the bag. On the sissy bar rack, it hangs over. It's big, and that's why some don't like the looks. ;)

Hoist! 8)

Actually the bag expanded is 10 inch deep and so is the luggage rack but the bag has a little map pocket that hides the actual end of the bag in the picture.

I considered the one Hoist has but if you use different bags from time to time and some are longer/wider then the two up rack, then the bag rests on the railing bars and not on the main support bars. There was another tread that talked at length about this and so I decided to go with the sissy bar mounted rack.

The bags that you need to carry should be considered when making your decision.

How does the bike handle with that much 'weight' that far behind the bike?  Just wondering if it creates a problem.  :-\ spyder

When you're 2-up and loaded, you definitely feel it. It gets a little top heavy. You have to be purposeful when you stop. But when you're moving along, you don't notice it as much. I can still push the bike almost as far as I do without it though.

That's why it has to be detachable. Mine's for 2-up trips! ;)

Not so much a problem as it is a difference. I know the first time I had my bike loaded (heavy) for a trip with tourpak full, and Dekker Supreme bag on tourpak rack the front end felt lighter. Wasn't scary lighter, but definitely lighter.

Mmmmmm, that's what I was kinda expecting, but didn't know.  I use to pack a lot of stuff on a tall sissy bar on the chopper, but never really noticed any ride diff. 2'up, but the handling characteristics of that bike were nothing to write home about w/o a load.  :P har!  spyder

Looking for suggestions from those who've been there done that.

Looking at Adjustable Passenger Floorboard Kit - Chrome Part# 50768-07  Wife has longer reach wondering if there is cost benefit here. They do not appear to accommodate ironside inserts :nixweiss:

Like someone said, the passenger footboards with adjustable mounts are over $600.  I bought mine at 20% off during a sale and they were still in the $520 range.

Here are some pictures that might help.

It was a bit hard getting flash pictures at night in my garage, but you should be able to see how they mount.

My wife was always sliding forward with the standard SE pegs supplied on the SERK.  Even adjusting them up/down made no difference.

I had also upgraded to the HD TP for the '08 SERK and on the mounting bar that comes with it, the seating position is way forward.  I moved it back 1" and that did help a small amount, so I drilled new holes another 1-1/4" rearward and that did more good..... But still no cigar.  Kuryakyn came out this year with a new "U" shape tube rail mount for this application.  It moves the TP back about 3" and then gives you some adjustments.

So the new TP rearward mount by Kuryakyn and the adjustable passenger floorboards, my wife seems to be happy.

With the adjustable passenger floorboard mounts, you can tip them slightly like I did to line up with the front floorboards for a more pleasing look.

Just one thing I need to mention.  Don't do what I did.  I need highway pegs and had nice mounts from my old '76 FLH.  So I bought the Iron Side pegs for $150 and mounted them.  Two weeks later my wife talked me into doing the passenger floorboards and now I have an extra set of Iron Side pegs; not smart planning on my part.

As far as part numbers go, I think I've posted them before but did a quick search and couldn't find the link.  I'm at work and the receipt is at home.  I will say that all the part numbers are in the '08 P&A catalog.  My parts guy had experience with them and yes, they are the Winged bases and Iron Side inserts.

Not only do you have the forward sweep of the adjustment link, but you still have the 3" on the frame to move the entire assembly up or down.

These really are the bomb, but the bike did look better with pegs.

Good luck and if you still need part numbers, let me know and I look them up on the receipt.

 :) :) :)

Dan,
You may not really have an extra set of Iron Side pegs. Does your wife have a set of "highway pegs"? Kuryakyn makes a set of adjustable highway peg mounts for the passenger, (they give the passenger another place to rest their feet and/or legs in addition to the footboards) but they won't work with the Harley adjustable passenger footboard mounts. I have a spare set of those (HD) adjustable footboard mounts to prove it.  :( And a company called Squire & James used to make some passenger "highway peg" mounts called PegRizers. My wife liked those the best, but again they won't fit with the adjustable passenger footboard mounts.

After all the experimenting and swapping around (read 100's of $$$) we finally ended up with a set of the "standard" (non-adjustable) chrome passenger footboard mounts and the adjustable Kuryakyn "highway peg" mounts for the passenger. Of course if your wife is "happy" with your current setup, then don't tell her about any of this stuff...  :P  ;D  8)

Let me know if anyone wants to see some pictures of what we are using now. Of course, I'm at work (in California) and the bike is at home (in Oregon  ??? ) so I can't post anything until this weekend...  :(
