No way Mike.

Dealers in New Jersey stock very few parts. Every time bikes go into the shop they sit around waiting.

Even if we could get the parts there is not enough time.

a) have never done this, don't really know what is involved ( haven't studied the manual yet)

and

b) we are both working Wednesday.

BTW LtBawb should be CaptBawb. Bob is the shift captain for my platoon. Most likely a Battalion in DC.

So, when you buy "gear drive cams" do you get "gear drives" and "cams"?

Or are we talking two different kits need to be ordered, so for instance the Yuill cams are $320 plus a gear drive kit???????????

You have to specify you want gear drive cams and get the gear drive kit w/them.

I thought I had a picture showing the gears for the cams, but they were still in the box (pic below). I believe that at least one of the gear drive cams rotates reverse of the chain driven cams that's why you have to specify gear drive along w/them not having the sprocket for chain drive on them.

That would make sense. With a chain both cams will rotate the same direction, with gears and no idler (think small Chevy gear drives) one cam will rotate the opposite of the other.

Now, not having seen HD gear drives, I am assuming that in your picture you have a crank drive, a 2-1 cam drive and 2 equal to the crank gears.

Duane-

I realize it is short notice on a breakdown this close to a trip.  I started cutting my oil filter apart at 7500 miles and got the orange specs each time.  Finally put the 575 gear drive cams with the Feuling oil pump and lifters at about 12,500 miles.

My oil pressure was still normal when the cams were changed.  The outside tensioner had wear but the inside tensioner did not (normally the other way around).  The oil pump rotor housing had a lot of wear.

Each engine is different about mileage on the tensioners.  They don't belong in our motors.

Does Bob have anything else to ride to York?   I don't know if an oil and filter change will get you there and back.  Cam chest needs to come apart to determine problem and then order the parts.  Not what you want to hear.   :(

With the S&S cam kit you get 4 gears-crank, idler, and 2 cam gears.  The cams you buy seperate.

Bob,

Changing the oil and filter was a "hail mary". It was an unknown until it was done. There was really no indication of when the last oil change was done.

Oil change is done and no different.

Bob does have a 98 Ultra, but he took the insurance off and canceled the registration in anticipating a sale.
