Some changes made during the suspension downtime
« on: April 21, 2008, 05:43:54 PM »

I recently added Bitubo rear shocks and had Traxxion redo the front forks. While waiting for parts I made a couple of minor changes.

I made a new harness for my tourpak. With the HD seats the seat pan is flexible enough to move the seat and hook up the harness I had under it.
The Corbin does not flex at all and caused a difficult time hooking up the wires.

The King tourpak has the LED spoiler brake/running light, side marker LED's and the LED accessory light kit (lid and saddlebag lights).
There is also a 12 volt outlet (cigar lighter style) inside the tourpak for phone camera or laptop charging. Laptop is charged if needed with a 400 watt inverter.

Also an extra on the tourpak are speakers (Hawg-wired)

So that makes a total of 11 wires.

This is a Deutsche 12 pin connector. I was going to use a bulkhead connector but there just wasn't enough room.

I have to loosen the saddlebag, but it is easier then it was before.

Previously I had a speaker harness and chassis harness hooked up to the tourpak with separate connectors

Best I could do with the parts I had on hand for a "tourpak to bike harness".

The two screws are where the cigar lighter socket is located and the rings are to secure a bag to the seat when there is no BSR

This is the "still used" 8 pin harness with a jumper running down to the 12 pin connector.

The chopped tourpak will still use this harness since there are no speakers involved.

I eliminated all the pig tails on the battery except for the Hawg-wired amp. The HW supplied wire is not long enough.

I added some terminals to the blank spots in the fuse box and now have the heated gear supplies (3), heated seat, HID headlight fused in here. The Battery Tender is connected here to the hot side of the B+.

I found one small harness that is still fused under the seat after I finished all of this  :nixweiss: (one I had forgotten about).

I liked Don's idea about using the Powerlet connectors for heated gear and the battery tender, but in the end I preferred this method.

When needed the pigtails just exit out the top of the side panel. When not needed they tuck nicely inside the cover.

The two leads with the velcro go to a bulkhead mount dual thermostat mounted on the fairing.

I have 6 speakers on the bike, 2 in the fairing, 2 on the tourpak and 2 in the down fairings.

The tour pak speakers are used when my wife is riding. Otherwise I use the upper and lower fairing speakers.

This is where I make that connection.

Maybe next year I will add a pair of double throw/double pole switches somewhere and eliminate the connectors.

The disconnected part is for the lowers.

Heat Demons with the chrome switch. Tough to get a good picture with flash.
I'll try again later.

These are the HD flame grips, they really go well with the red bike's colors , almost like they were made for this model.

BTW, if you don't have to drill hole in your bars for the Heat Demons I strongly suggest you take the tank off, it will make it much easier.

Nice Duane.  Really cleaned up a lot of connections.  My tour paks disconnect as you've done, they without as many leads.  No speakers.  And having as much as possible fused at the fuse panel is really convenient.

It's an improvement just having nothing fused inside the fairing.  That's a lot of effort to change a fuse.  But having it all in one place means never having to try to remember which fuse holder does what.  Looks good :2vrolijk_21: .

And I also changed the throttle cables to the 2" over, something I should have done when I did the WO 575's.

I strongly suggest that if you go with these bars - change the cables

Ah yup, all except for that one I forgot about buried near the bottom of the battery  :nixweiss:

vary cool porthole,  i like the liquid tight fitting on the rear speakers,  clear pictures too. i am a little anal too being left handed and all your turn signal module is smashed by your seat and should be changed out with a newer thin one before you start popping fuses and looks like the battery hole down is missing therubber pad. i like it happy motoring.

I only used the fitting beacuse; a) I had it, and b), those speaker pods were used eBay items, and they already had a 1" hole there. If I ever replace the pods with the "non-control" style I'll run the wires out the bottom of the tourpak, using the same fitting.

The module you are referring is the turn signal brake light converion - there is now a thinner version?
It doesn't get "mushed" that much, and not at all with Corbin seat on.

There is supposed to be a rubber pad?
If there was, it was not there on delivery.

I'll have to get one.
