Coils and Spark Plug Wires!
« on: April 22, 2008, 02:49:55 PM »

Why don't we ever hear about using better coils or spark plug wire for these bikes? On my carb bikes, I run a Dyna S ignition, Accel 8.8mm Plug wires, and Accel Super Coil. Have had much success with this combo on my carb bikes in the past.

But on these FI TC engines, I never hear about using better ignition components. I know the ignition parameters themselves are built into the ECM. But we still use a coil and plug wires. Why aren't we looking for improvements in those 2 areas? What am I missing here? Thanks gang! ;)

When H-D went to the Twin Cam platform they introduce their own version of single fire ignition. The coil they use as stock is a high output coil like what you used to buy for your Evo. The stock plug wires are also better. I bought a set of SE Plug wires just because they were orange  :D
Anyway, I believe that's why you don't hear plug wires and coils mentioned anymore.

Plug wires.  Though improvement in actual performance is probably as much a state of mind as it is a state of bike.

you can buy as good but not better than stock ,  you can pay more but..............there is no secret from coil to the plugs.  the secret long before you get there.

hoist, the stock ignition is great these days. you dont wanna stray far with different wires and plugs and coils if running stock ecm for fear of the ionic sensing built in.
