Can I Circumcise My Mufflers?
« on: April 23, 2008, 12:44:16 PM »

The title really got your attention didn’t it?

I am running a set of ’06 CVO mufflers that I have bored out the cats, on my non-CVO TC88 FLHR.  Overall, I really like the mellow sound of these pipes on the ’88 motor.  Much better than ’88 stock mufflers.

Nonetheless, why is it that the MoCo has that pipe sticking out the exit end of the muffler, all the way out to the end of the billet end cap?  I don't like the look of it at all and would much rather have it gone.  The mufflers look great otherwise.

Is there any reason why I cannot remove the end cap and just cut that pipe off at the end of the muffler body?

Would it affect performance, or sound?

Unless you're a certified Mohel, I wouldn't recommend it :P                Seriously though, I don't see how that would hurt anything. Maybe its there to keep the endcaps cleaner by directing exhaust/carbon straight out.  Which is kinda weird 'cause any other circumcision is designed to keep the tip clean :nixweiss: or so they say. And as long as the bike is new enough I don't think she'll even know its gone or the pain it went through removing it :cucumber:
