Bad Day Yesterday!!!
« on: April 27, 2008, 10:16:05 AM »

Girlfriend's brother decided to be a nice guy and put my bike in the garage while I was at work 'cuz it looked like rain. Well.... he hit the door frame and crumpled the front fender - doesn't look like any other damage, although I guess I'll hafta get the springer checked out. It's a canyon copper '07. Am I gonna have a hard time replacing this fender since it is a limited production item and anybody have an idea on the cost? He said he'd pay for it. Should I submit it to my insurance???

Sorry to hear of your mishap. As for getting it replaced that shouldn't be that big of a deal. If you own the Parts Manual for you bike it will give you a P/N and you can check w/some of the vendors that give 20% discount to get a good deal. It could take some time (4 or more weeks) to get it replaced. :(

Not sure I'd contact the insurance company because he might not be covered under your policy and it might cause an increase in your insurance. :nixweiss:

i would find out the price from the stealers then discuss with ur brother, maybe he would pay ur extra premium.  sit down when they tell u the price it wont b cheap cus each cvo is hand painted by an outsourced painter, cant remember the firms name. :(  u will probably have to wait up 2 6weeks for the new fender

I think I would avoid the insurance knowing about it.  First your deductible may cover it any way and the second thing is that they could consider it an accident which your premiums may go up or they may drop you in the future if there is another mishap down the road...they are good if you really need it but for the minor things the less they know the better you are.

Agree, don't file insurance claim.  Other then waiting, should be no problem getting the fender.

Never had to replace CVO painted part. Does the dealership have to have the old part or is your serial number enough to get the part?

He should contact his homeownwers insurance or at least PAY for the damage he caused, YOU should not have to contact your insurance co. for anything. don't forget to add trhe labour charge to reinstal the said damage.

Dealer's on the way to pick up the bike now. Said it will take 6 to 8 weeks for the new fender to come in. Dealer wants to check out for any additional front-end damage that may have occurred, which I totally agree with. Springers can be touchy! Service manager said I could ride the bike without the fender (after it's checked out & deemed okay) 'til the new fender comes in. Not sure I really wanna do that, tho! Any opinions? You guys are great on this forum and all yer opinions are worth their weight in gold to me! Thanx in advance!!!

Six to eight weeks will take up a lot of good riding time. I would say get the bike back and ride it while waiting on fender. Also leaving at the dealership for that long of time is asking for something to bump into it, fall on it, or just plain get dirty while waiting. Better to have it at home (as long as you don't leave it out when not around would hate for someone trying to do you a favor again :nervous:), and safe. :2vrolijk_21:

I too would get the bike home that's a long time to sit at the dealer with an accident waiting to happen plus missing all that riding time would really suck. I woudn't worry about riding without the front fender actually alot of guys prefer that look. Just watch if you get stuck in the rain, riding with no front fender when it's wet is not a pleasant thing.

No problem getting the fender other than time.

I got my SEUC in about the 6 week time window.  It was rideable though.  Oh, $900.00 for the SEUC piece.

How about a loaner fender in black or some unobtrusive color? At least you could ride.

i would definately get the bike back from the dealer, all the reasons stated above. (what did i i tell u 6weeks) is it so bad u have to take it off, so what if its a lil scratched, straighten it put it back on, ride it till the new fender comes, its a story to tell, waznt me! :drink:.
bikes look cool with no front fender but if u get caught out riding in the rain, u gonna get very wet a the front wheel will throw it all in ur face,
take it from me:  been there, done that, got the tee shirt! :soapbox:

what about the price of the new fender,   r u sitting down!

Dealer just picked up the bike - in the rain! How's that for a bit of irony??? Bike's gonna travel about 40 miles to the dealer on the back of a pick-up and the damage occurred 'cuz the girl's bro tried to keep it from getting wet! Noticed more damage when it was being loaded. Looks like the shifter & left forward control assembly was knocked back a bit. Seemed to shift into 1st okay, but..... Oh well! All I can do is wait for the phone call, I guess!!   :nixweiss: Would like to get the bike back so I don't hafta miss any of the scheduled events I was planning on attending. Thought about the "borrowed fender" idea and not too keen on no fender. She's so pretty, I hate the thought of taking her out when she looks bad!  :nervous: (Yeah! I know!! Real bikers never say their bike is "pretty"!!)  LOL!!!
