What Pete said ^ .

One other potential addition that is in mine I forgot to mention is something to help strengthen the bottom end to mitigate the impact of the increase in output.  A crankshaft support from a company called GP Designs.

Now we're getting back into the EXPENSIVE side of things...

Not to worry...I'm mtg with my resident performance guy this week to discuss a path.

I added gear cams, crank runout was not acceptable in the case, ended up having to purchase an S&S crank, zippers red shift 575 gear cams, adj push rods, bottom end timken bearing, rebuild of my fueling oil pump, a few other items in the clutch area (I think bearing upgrades). $6K out the door and 2.5 months down time (dealer closed Sundays and Mondays). Really fun to ride now.  I think if I had know how much it was going to cost I would have done things differently.  My 2 cents!

Ouch.  With very careful shopping and taking awhile to collect the parts I had much (much much) less than that in my whole top end and cams.  Doing my own labor had to help a bunch on the $$$ though.

Good shopping, and doing it yourself saves a lot of $$$$ But if you don't want to work on it yourself, look around for a good honest shop, check with other guys at get togethers, or poker runs in your area. A good private shop will usually do a better job and save you money too. Not that all HD dealers are bad, but many are!!!

I forgot to add, they were running a 20% cash back on purchase or service (excluding new bikes of course).  $1200 gift card.  Guess they'll be doing my service from now on :D

It can make a huge difference.  I spent four months or a bit more collecting parts and waiting for good scores.  Curiosity got the best of me and just checked to find out I had $4400 and change in all the parts that are now in the engine upgrage.  That included the powder coating and diamond cutting.  Would have been very easy to spend 25% more then that.

I think I replaced a few more parts, including a few that didn't really need to be replaced, but it seemed like the thing to do at the time....     I ended up somewhere around $6500 deep.  I all I wanted to do was fix mine, I probably could have done it for around half that...  of course, I was the source of labor, and I work cheap  (that is a secret, by the way)     (not really!)

Yeah, but what the hell Scott...  If you're biting the bullet to do this the goal is to only have to do it once.  Do it right and be done with it.  It may not work out that way.  But it is the goal.  I'd rather do just a bit extra and be sure (and satisfied) and kick myself in the ass later for a corner cut that bites hard.

Yep, I agree with that completely.  If your going to do it, do it right and don't wish you had gone a step further.

The choice was fix it or fix it and improve it or fix it and improve it and make it go fast!!!  No regrets!  :2vrolijk_21:
