Air/Fuel ratio on Dyno run
« on: May 03, 2008, 07:07:59 AM »

Need some help here guys. I will soon be adding slip-ons, SERT, and hi-flow front end, not sure which brands yet, and then the Dyno. My question is, after reading the threads on other dyno runs, I see the HP and Tq readings but no mention of the improved A/F ratio which I thought I understood would help big time with the heat issue. What's the deal? I realize the mine's bigger than yours mindset with regards to to HP and TQ, but is the 13.7 A/F a given with the Dyno? Will it show on a different printout of the runs? As always, this is my favorite second family. Thanks

13.7 is not a given. The tuner tunes the bike to a "target" AF ratio. HD's run best at about 13.2 - 13.5 AFR. At idle and wide open throttle they should be set up to run richer, about 13 at idle and in some cases down in the high 12's  at WOT.

If it's tuned for best combustion efficiency at all operating points, the AFR will be correct at all operating points, regardless of whether your AFR line is flat or not. Flat might not be best. You can't see this on a dyno chart though. Only the line itself. So it really don't tell ya much, unless all you're trying to do is lower a lean flat line to a richer one. ;)

My stock dyno run was 14.5:1
My dyno run after SERT, slash cut V&H slip ons and mapping adjustment:  13:1
Everything I read says 13:1 +/- is the best for keeping the bike as cool as possible.

I ain't no guru at this, but lately I'm learning little-by-little.  Mine was tuned using the tuning link SW.  Seems the cruise area in my map is AWFUL lean.  Hmmmmmmmm.  Hopefully that gets rectified today.
