I’m gonna have more than one issue…

I was cleaning my 06 Ultra today, and I found that the front rubber motor mount is about half torn.

Does anyone know how long I’ve got to replace it, and what will happen when it tears all the way?

After reading other posts here, I will assume that the motor may drop… but how?

There is quite a bit of distance from the washer to the base of the rubber… I don’t understand how this works.

The next challenge I’m going to have is warranty.

My bike was purchased used form the US, I’m up in Canada… not sure how it’s going to play out!

Help!

No telling how long it will last, If you baby the bike it will last longer. I have seen them go for some time before completely going. The worst case would be for it to break free and the motor mount bolt to take out the votage regulator.

Murphy,

I don't know how the warranty may or may not be affected, but even if they refuse to cover it under warranty it's not a major repair.  It's actually not a difficult repair to do yourself, once you get the oil cooler and voltage regulator out of the way.

I believe HD had a recall on the 'C' version front rubber engine mount on either the 2005 or 2006 touring. If i remember this correctly the rubber mounts stamped with 'C'  were defective.

I'm not certain if it ever became a recall, but there was a running change in production in '06 on the front mount.  See attachment.

I think Harley will replace but he may have to cover the labor end, this would be one hour labor for change out,

Just for piece of mind I would have it changed as soon as possible, because you are eventually going to have it fixed anyway.

I think I'm going to try myself... after removing the regulator and the cooler, I have read that the motor will have to be jacked up.

Where is the best place to put the jack?

Are there any other mounts that I will have to lossen?

Any one have any directions?

Thanks in advance!

You don't need to jack the engine much, just enough to remove tension on the mount when you slide the old one out and the new one in.  Best approach is to place a small block of wood against the bottom of the engine and place the jack against that, to protect the cases.  I personally like that method better than the optional pry bar method that some folks use.

One thing not mentioned in the Velva-Ride instructions is that you will need to slightly modify the oil cooler mounting plate to clear the new mount.  Simple job with a dremel tool or die grinder, still simple but more time consuming with a file.  Chief posted a photo of his in another thread, which I've borrowed and reposted here.  Another thing I found was that the 2 original bolts for the mount to frame were a little too short to fully penetrate the nuts, since the V-R plate is much thicker than the stock part.  You will need to purchase two bolts approximately 3/8" longer than stock.
