I have around 6K miles on my '07 CVO Ultra. So far have had 2 head gasket failures. Lately when riding, warmed up around 2-2.5 K rpm I have around 21 lbs oil pressure...I seem to remember around 32 lbs at this rpm warmed up a while back...you guys got any info or input?
I haven't seen specs for the '07 and later setup (higher output pump and hydraulic tensioner system), but the earlier Twin Cams were supposed to run approximately 30 psi @ 2500 rpm and 230° oil temp. Normal idle was supposed to be 8-10 psi at the same oil temp. The info should be listed in the '07 / '08 shop manuals for the latest versions.
Regardless of the specs, the situation you describe is an indication of something that has changed, and it should be investigated. None of these gauges is extremely accurate, so I wouldn't hang my hat on a number, but if the gauge starts reading significantly differently than it did previously, something is causing that. May be the wrong oil, may be a bad pressure sending unit, could be a bad gauge, could be a stuck open bypass valve, could be a worn oil pump, etc. First check is to replace the sending unit with a real mechanics pressure gauge to determine actual pressure. If actual pressure is OK, test the sending unit and gauge. If the actual pressure is low, internal inspection will be the next step.
