Oil filter wrench
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:42:58 AM »

Whats the skinny on an oil filter wrench for 110.
Aftermarket or, gulp....A trip to the stealer for the tool.

That speed pickup is right in the way, does it come off 1st?

Thanks for your time... :drink:

Miker,
I use a cheap strap wrench. First I poke a hole in the filter to drain the oil.  Then I put a sheetmetal screw in the filter and then remove the filter.  With the oil cooler and motor mount its just a mess.  I usually remove the oil cooler moune and move it out of the way.  The K&N filters are great due to the large nut on the end so no special tools needed and you can removee it while its hot to the touch.

The K&n filter is what I use.  Have the MOCO oil filter socket with the cut out for the sensor but it was PIA..  K&N a lot easier and a better filter.

17mm, Mike.  You'll like that filter.  So much easier to remove it than the stock.

I now use K&N oil filters.....the nut on the end is pretty slick.

Before the K&N oil filters, I used a special filter wrench.  It is adjustable and can be used from several different angles.  Believe it or not, I actually found several other uses for my filter wrench.  It is kinda hard to describe, so I'll just attach a photo ;D
