Noise Complaint at Luke AFB, Phoenix, AZ

Noise Complaint at Luke AFB, Phoenix AZ

Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by
civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its
planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were.

A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the
back. Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote
the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that
disturbed his/her day at the mall. When that individual read the
response from a Luke AFB officer, it must have stung quite a bit.

The complaint:
'Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base:
Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at
precisely 9:11 a.m., a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass
over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500
feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need
this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns early
bird special? Any response would be appreciated.'

 The response:
Regarding 'A wake-up call from Luke's jets' (Letters, Thursday):
On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four-ship
flyby of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over
the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques.. Capt. Fresques was an Air Force
officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was
killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.

At 9 a.m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland
Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and
friend. Based on the letter writer's recount of the flyby, and
because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the
playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques
as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States
and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the
sacrifices they have endured.

A four-ship flyby is a display of respect the Air Force pays to
those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional
aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter
writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.
The letter writer asks, 'Whom do we thank for the morning air
show? The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your
thanks to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques, and thank them for
you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable
formation of their lives.

Lt. Col. Grant L. Rosensteel, Jr.  USAF

note: according to Snopes, Capt. Fresques was killed in action on Memorial Day in 2005.  Seems fitting to post this in honor of this important day of remembrance

Used to be a dirt perimiter road arond the base you could stop on outside the fence at the end of the runway. It was a blast to see an F15 fly over at 40 feet while landing. I love the smell of burned jet fuel and the sound of freedom.

Just 2 min. ago an F-16 flew over the house, a fly over from Plant 42, out of Edwards AFB. THAT'S AMERICA! You get to where you know what it is by the sound. I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!

I live in the fly zone as military jets flying out of Middletown, PA (Harrisburg) take practice runs over Ft. Indiantown Gap in Annville, PA.  I've been told that the lake I live on is a natural land mark the pilots use when doing some of these runs.  I've had miltary jets fly over my house from early in the morning to early evening and even one or two night runs.

I'd just like to say thanks for waking me up or interupting whatever I'm watching on TV.  I feel 110% better knowing that those guys are out there, practicing and able to go kick so a$$ when needed.  If a few minutes of lost sleep or loud noise is the only price that I have to pay for my freedom then I've got the best bargain in the world. God help the a-hole who complains in my presence.  I don't usually like to go postal, but occasionaly my misspent youth overcomes my more mature nature.

As to this example I hope that SOB gets mugged at that mall.

Sorry for the  :soapbox:... This one really pi$$ed me off.

Ride Safe,

My Dad had a women complaing about his cows after she built next to the farm.
He told her he was looking for a reason to change to Hogs as they were paying better and thanked her.

Never heard another complaint about the cows.

Now J! Calm down, after all, POSTAL has been replaced by high schoolers going on massacres.

Opra will probably have this poor traumatized individual on her show next week! ::)

Every morning at aprox 8:30 am, four F-15 fighters fly over my house, just after take-off from the Belle Chasse, LA Air Station, before heading out over the Gulf of Mexico.
Yes, the noise is nearly deafening, but it the sound of FREEDOM.

I will hear those jets tomorrow morning just before I leave to ride a Patriot Guard mission for a US Marine, Lance Cpl. Casey L. Casanova, 22, of McComb, MS.
KIA - 5/2/08, a single mother & the 1st female KIA for Mississippi.  (so far... :( )

There are quieter places to live in foreign countries. Need any help packing?

This is similar to the tree huggers putting limits on the use of sonar off the coast of SoCal....

These people want us to protect them, but don't want us to inconvenience them in any way....

What upsets me the most is the don't give a cr@p now because it isn't their a$$ on the line but when the $hit hits the fan they blame us for not being prepared, when it is them that tied our hands behind our backs....

Tree hugging liberals talk tolerance and diversity only towards things they believe in.  Bunch of hippocrits!  Teddy Kennedy talks green but stopped the wind farm on the cape because it was where he sailed!

Tree hugging liberals talk tolerance and diversity only towards things they believe in.  Bunch of hippocrits!  Teddy Kennedy talks green but stopped the wind farm on the cape because it was where he sailed!

This was too good to pass up.

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost.  She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, 'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.'

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, 'You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level.  You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.'

She rolled her eyes and said, 'You must be a Republican.'  'I am,' replied the man.  'How did you know?'  'Well,' answered the balloonist, ' every thing you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost.  Frankly, you've not been much help to me.'

The man smiled and responded, 'You must be a Democrat.'  'I am,' replied the balloonist. 'How did you know?'  'Well,' said the man, 'you don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air.  You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault.'
