P/N Needed For Nuts!
« on: May 14, 2008, 12:37:49 PM »

I installed my KTP, and after using it with Binx on last weekend, I find that I need to change the location in the holes I have it mounted in, for her to be more comfortable on it. The detachable rack mounts to the TP with Nylock Nuts (with the black tips). Nylock nuts should only be used once. So before I relocate it, I'd like to order a few sets of these nuts. Does anyone have the P/N for these Nylock Nuts to mount the TP to the Detachable Rack? Thanks gang! :2vrolijk_21:

Unfortunately not Scot. I know they usually list P/Ns for kit components there. Should'a saved it! :-[

Doggone it!  Wish I'd have remembered our discussion about this last night, when I was hunting another part number.  If you don't get what you're after by this evening, I'll look it up when I get home.

Thanks Henry. Forgot all about it. But I'll be going past a dealer later and it popped into my head to get 2 sets of them. I'll get it figured out there. It should be fun to see how long it takes for the guy to come up with it. I'll watch him scramble awhiler before suggesting he checks a rack kit! ;) :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:

Howie, those are just some generic hardware that have a 4 position part number, not the normal 5 position, hyphen, 2 postion part number.  Looking back at the parts list from when I added the KTP to my SEEG, I believe the ones you are talking about are 7887 Hex Lock Nut.  It's been my experience that sometimes dealer have some difficulty with these generic part numbers, so hope that helps and good luck!

Aren't they a 1/4-20 lock nut?  I think that's what mine are.  You can buy those in stainless at any decent hardware store for much less than the stealer.  You could also switch to plain nuts and lockwashers.  Never have to worry how many times you take your nuts off then!

Other than that black tip part that Howie mentioned, they're probably just a regular ol' nylon lock nut.  The black tips cover the exposed threads of the screws.  Now, I understand Howie doesn't clean his bike ;), but I clean mine and it's nice to have those threads covered up when you're under there reaching around with your arms.  Looks a little neater and cleaner, too, without the threads sticking through.
