ANTENNA TRUTHS
« on: May 16, 2005, 01:32:45 PM »

OK, after reading the other threads about antenna's I have some hard data and a surprise solution. In my rural area where I live I get 5 FM, 1 AM and 1 weather radio stations in my Ford Super Duty. One of the FM's is a little fuzzy (Like me  [smiley=confused5.gif] ) When I got my Screaming Chicken home two weeks ago with its stock whip antenna I got all the same stations as with my truck but all were clear. After reading all the antenna threads i thought I would try a Tune Trapper, big mistake  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] I got 2 of the 5 FM's only 1 clear, no AM or weather band.  So this past Friday I was at  Freedom Cycle in Reno Nv to have them install the dual exhaust I learned they sell a "shorty" rubber antenna for our SEEGs. So I put it on and SURPRISE it works better that the stock whip or my truck. All 5 FM's cyrstal clear, AM clear and now get 2 weather bands  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] And it will bend to fit under the tour pack so you don't have to switch all the time. Will post pic when it stops raining

Hey Monorat; JC and i were wonderinmg if that was you at Freedom last week we were there on Saturday to have mine tuned and they told us that they did a Yellow one that got 106hp. I have the rubber antenna from Freedom one mine as well, i've had it for a month or 2 and It does work well.

How about posting your Dyno sheet?

I bought 2 $5.00 antenna's from Auto Zone to run on my Ultra Classic as I was not a fan of the  long stock whips. There were the short flexible ones about 6-8 inches long. The reception was better than the whips and what surprised me most was that I still had pretty good reception on my CB even though they were suppose to be for am/fm reception only. I thought they looked better to boot. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I've been thinking about the Tune Trapper or Dakota Digital for my SEEG but have heard to many varying comments on their effectiveness. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

But for $10.00 (actually $20.00, some jerkoff stole the first set [smiley=furious.gif]) you can't go wrong.

I put a rubber shorty Freedom antenna on about two weeks ago ,it works as good or a little better than the whip. Most of the time I have a ipod mini pluged into the aux.outlet.I think it sounds better than the cd player. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I did the same thing with the autozone antennas.  They are cell phone replacement antennas and they have a spiral to them which seems to work real well.  I got the freedom shorty 9", but it's fat an ugly.  I stole one off my ultra for the seeg until I can find another one at autozone.  The only ones that seem to have them are old stock.  I don't see these much anymore.  Anything's better than the whips.  Save the whips for the bedroom.

Does anybody have an internet source for the little rubber "freedom" antenna?  I'm using the "cell phone" one from Autozone right now and it works okay, but I would rather squish it up under the tour pak if I can, but I can't seem to find one here in lovely metropolitan Eugene... So when you replace the antenna under the tour pack with the shortie, what would you do to the one on the tourpack?  Do you just take it off the whip and leave the mount on the your pack.  Any pics would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Let's Roll

Let's roll......there are various things that people have done to plug the antenna holes in the tour pack.  You might have to do a search to find them.  I know that there are several pictures posted in that thread.

The Freedom rubber antenna threads on just like the whip. So i just move it back and forth as needed.

Striker,

If you do a search you can find a lot of feedback on the Dakota Digital has been previously posted.

Good Luck! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I put on the Dakota Digital.  I lost about 60% of the stations -- I am going back to stock.
