Syn 3 oil change intervals
« on: May 17, 2005, 03:15:03 PM »

HD has just increased the mileage on oil change interval for syn 3.  They say you can now run syn 3 for 10,000 miles in a primary and 20,000 in the transmisson.  They are nuts but thought I would pass it along for what its worth.

Sounds good to me!  That takes down the oil changes for your transmission to , what, 2 oil changes for the life of the tranny?   What a deal, eh!? [smiley=bigok.gif]

With the tranny being by far the easiest of the three to change, I have no clue why anyone would want to follow that service interval. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] [smiley=confused5.gif]

it does not matter to me what a can of oil says - statistics - MOCO - oil in all 3 holes will continually get changed out with a GOOD oil filter every 2,500 miles - and I re-cycle my drain oil's - its like that ole FRAM oil filter commercial years ago "YOU CAN PAY ME NOW - OR PAY ME LATER" folks here that work on their own engines understand what that is all about.

I just ordered from the distibutor in Penn, 5 QTs of Redline Shockproof HD for my tranny based on a thread in here with some lab results.  If those tests don't convince us the need at the very least to improve the tranny fluid, I don't know what will.
As far as the other fluids, I bet the MOCO figures most of us would be out of warranty before the real problems show from following these intervals.  I agree with Maverick, it is just a matter of when you pay the "piper"

I use jet engines as the prime mover to rotate the generator in our equipment. In the industry that I work in cleanleness is next to godleness. On the equipment I install I must flush all the lube oil systems and then have oil samples sent out for anaylasis. All the results have to be spot on before I sign off the flushes. We flush the oil through 100 mesh screen stratigically postioned in the hoses for the big stuff and use the system filters which are 10 micron to remove the small particles. One of the many tests that is run is particulate count. You will never remove all the debris in the oil. Some wear is normal and its inevietable. Believe me chit happens and things break. I see it all the time. About 10 years ago I ran a 250 hp turbo charged GS 1150 suzuki on the street. It would literally cook the engine oil the bike ran so hot. I would change the oil every 1500 miles. As far as those oil tests go from the thread thats one oil analyasis and I beleive the photo of the particles was magnified 50X. So dont freak out from what you see. I truly beleive in attention to details and there are lots of good oils out there with a bunch of marketing too go along with them. How much better is one oil over another who really knows. All the manufactures are in direct competion with one another and try to promote their product so the consumer will buy it. Choose your weapons mate! Brand X Y Z ?
