Well, 3.5 beers later last night and I isolated the two out of my 4 wires that control the opener (the other two are for the sensors as mentioned above by several) but connected my Harley unit and it doesn't work...I'm stumped (and ran outta beer) so back to the drawing board tonight. I've read on a thread or two about wires/connections somewhere in the fairing that some guys have had to tighten/adjust so I'll dig in there too.
By the way I got an order of Glare products delivered yesterday that I ordered last week so once I got fed up with the door opener I started with the Spider on the painted strip on the fuel tank and all I can say is...this stuff really works :huepfenjump3:

You used a different transmitter with the HD receiver?

Maybe not.  I've stuck a couple of spare HD xmitters in other things.  All you need is power and ground and up and down triggers.  Put one on a riding lawnmower.  It didn't even have a high and low beam.  Had to trick it in to working right with a relay setup.  :2vrolijk_21:

I'm thinking just using one of the extra 3 button transmitter I have so I can use it when I'm outside but keep the door down (lawn work mostly or when its cold & windy)

That would've been easier.  But I had a couple extra of the Harley branded xmitters.  Making them work in odd places was more fun.

I'll still try the 3 button thing though, have several of them laying around since the cars have homelink

Not that I would ever suggest such a thing... but did you read the directions?  You have to hold the button on the receiver while you activate your high/low beam to program it.  Takes two people if yours is plugged into the ceiling like mine, or maybe a really short garage.

Just plug the reciever into an extension cord for the timing with the bike transmitter.  It doesn't have to be hook to the opener.  You'll hear it "click" when it's working as you toggle the headlight.  That way you can work in peace!

Don't forget, while holding the button down toggle the headlights back and forth through two high/low cycles; not just one.

Courter and Arcticdue, thanks for the tip and though I rarely admit it, I did read the directions. After the typical disagreement between the wife when I 1st enlisted her help, I had already just plugged it into an extension cord and stood next to the bike. But I still love her and she still loves me  :huepfenlol2:

I have to admit I do not think I toggled the headlight switch for two cycles (I may have but not sure so I'll try that).

Twolane, I read a past post where you and chief commented about a connection inside the fairing. It was this post:

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=12866.0

What's that module/terminal connection look like if I decide I need to check that out? The previous owner of my bike had hard wired the power modules for Harley gps and radar detector to the inner fairing and though he took the units, those power module are still mounted there (I have a new inner fairing on order to get them off the bike) so I assume the wires for them run into the fairing and may have been added to those already in there and there may be a birds nest.

Two cycles is an easy thing to double check.  If memory serves correctly the light on the receiver comes on when you begin holding the button down and goes out at the end of two high/low cycles.

On a bike like yours with the trasmitter factory installed there's a pigtail interconnect harness between the headlight plug and the headlight.  It's what powers and triggers the receiver.

There have been reports of bad connections and bad crimps in that interconnect harness.  So it's worth looking at.  When you get the fairing off you'll find the transmitter low on the left side stuck to the inner fairing.  Turn the headlight switch on and off.  It there's power to the transmitter you'll see a little red LED on it blink.

You guys are great, I really appreciate the help and the 1st beers are on me WHEN we meet (not if) :drink:

Porthole, on that unit it looks like in the lower left is a watch type battery, is that what that is? Being my SEEG is an 05 maybe I should replace that while I'm in there.
Thanks for the pics, they are a big help to know what to expect since I've never opened up a fairing. At the same time I think I'll opt to add a new antenna to the radio so I can ditch the one on my tour pack, plus I can wire up the sirius satellite radio i got...

It's under a clear epoxy (or something) weather seal.  Nothing there is serviceable.  But you can see the little red LED through it to know if you've got power and switching or not.
