Lower Fairings?

Who removes the lower fairings from their SEEG's.  If you have them removed could you post some pictures?

The 05 lowers are a piece of cake to remove/install(much easier then the earlier models).

I made a set of quick release screws with large knobs on them so I can remove my 05 lowers in seconds with no tools.

I can literally remove them in about 60 seconds.

Here is a picture for ya, it is rekoch's and it is in this thread "yellow bike is in garage" I could not copy the pic for some reason but I can do it another way! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Are you taking your lowers off as a matter of normal course when the weather gets hot?  I had a dealer suggest that over 80 degrees, pull em from the SEEG.

just took my lowers off for the summer.  did the same last summer.  On the '04, it's not a option, since they block so much more air than the re-designed ones on the '05.  I'm not sure I could leave 'em on even cutting holes in them for the eGlideGoodies Vents....not sure it would make that much difference since it's so hot down here in NC.   [smiley=drink.gif]   spyder

My lowers come off every summer. Even with the 05 having the vented lowers, I still think the heat would be too much for both the engine and myself.

JR, once you post a picture to this website, it can not be re-posted unless you change the name of the file.

I leave my lowers on year round and did on my last two Ultra Classics, also.  I think it is part of the "look" of the complete bike.  Yep, it gets hot here.......110 to 115 every summer......but with the eGlide Goodies leg fairing vents, it just never seem to be an issue.  JMHO

That color combo looks just right with the lowers on....

Here is what I made up from parts from the local hardware store:

I used threaded 1/4 20 couplers with screwed in knobs for the top two attachment bolts.  The upper one needs a smaller knob to clear a rib that is molded into the top of the fairing.  I red loctited the knobs into the couplers so they don't unscrew when I am removing the assembly.

The big knob & stud on the right secures the bottom of the fairing to the crashbar clamp.

I use a drop of blue loctite on the threads when I attach the bolts although I'm not sure that's really necessary.

This setup works great, I can reach in the glove box, unscrew the two screws, unscrew the bottom clamp & slip the lower off in 60 seconds.  Even if you don't want to ride with them off, it is MUCH easier to remove them to clean the bike also.

The 05 lowers are a HUGE improvement from the 04's not only for the vents(which work great), but they are MUCH easier to remove also.
