Bag Lights or Not
« on: May 20, 2008, 10:22:15 PM »

Just wondering if anyone has installed bag lights in their hard bags. I like the look but hate the though of drilling holes in a perfectly good bag. :-\

There are extended light bars (like on a Heritage) or trim rails with lights from HD that I would do WAAAYY before installing something like that.  The one bag light I have on my wish list are the color matched lid spoilers from HD.  They are LED, a little stealthy and work as both directionals and break lights.  I haven't seen anything quite like these but I guess that's also part of the charm.

Got to lose at least a little room inside the already small-enough saddlebags for the light housing and/or socket to stick through.

Don,
you are pulling my pud.!!!!.....you are talking about the room lost inside the bag , just look at them...  you would save the room if you just hung trailer lights on them

Don,
you are pulling my pud.!!!!.....

ooooh, I am not.  Not even with 103's fingers!!

Ok, every light I've ever seen mounted in the rear face of a saddlebag  that was flush on the outside did intrude in to the inside.  At least a little.  If it's flush on the outside the depth of the bulb, housing harness and socket have to go somewhere.  If you've got the molded saddlebag liners they likely be a problem.  Without them harness connectors and small harness to the lights themselves will have to be protected.

It may not be huge amounts of space.  But it will be space that will have to be accounted for and protected.

Didn't give much thought about the space lost inside, and the linners wouldn't fit either. Went ridining last weekend and we ran into a guy with a steet glide that had em, wish I would have looked inside the bag. You guys are wright that the inside bulbs and wring would have to be protected by something. They look better in person.

I would go with led's or something less bulky. Not the best look.

try the LED lights that mount on top of the saddle bag, looks like mini air foil and looks great and provides more light at night than you would think.

takes up no room inside of bag either

I think this is the light that your talking about. This looks about 100 times better than the bag lights. Just wanting a little more light back there. I don't do a lot of night riding but every little bit helps. I don't want some idiot saying "I didn't see him".  :nixweiss:
