Adjustable Height Windshield , Any Comments?
« on: May 18, 2005, 07:17:48 AM »

I just saw this in the 05 accessories catalog, pn# 57705-02. It looks like the windshield can be adjusted up and down. I'm thinking about getting one?

Does anyone have one of these on there bike? If so how do they like it? Also can you adjust the windshield to any height you wish or  does it have just a low and high setting?

Comments appreciated!

I have one on a SERK and really like it.  It's adjustment range is only 2-3 inches, but it makes a huge difference when riding in the rain.  Normally, I keep it at it's lowest point so that I am looking over it, but when it rains I raise it.  The adjustment mechanism is easy to operate from the rider's seat, but it takes both hands so you have to be stopped to operate it.

So the adjustment range is like having the HD Standard and HD Tall shield in one correct? BTW how tall are you? Could you post a photo of the sheild from the riders position?

O.K., here are the measurements on the windshield.  It is 22" wide, it is 17.5" from the top of the headlight cutout to the top of the windshield in the full down position, and it is 20.5" high from the top of the headlight cutout to the top of the windshield in the full up position.  You can stop it in any position between full down and full up.  Below are four photos at the full up and down positions.  The first one is at full down from the rider's position.  Hope this helps!!

Would you know if your windshield in the low position is lower then the low windsheild that HD sells? Also in the higest position is it taller then the tall windshield HD offers?

Or in both positions is it the same as the HD low and tall shield?

I dont' know...I don't have any other windshield to compare it to.  If you can find the other windshields that you are referring to, measure them, and compare them to the measruements that I provided, that should do it.  I just don't know anyone that has the other ones.

Anyone have a picture of that retractable windscreen that Dale demonstrated at the Wheels Through Time Museum???

Sort of ahead of it's time.

Well the bike arrived and I checked the stock windshield height, Its 20". So the tallest position of the HD adjustable shield  is that of the stock HD fixed shield and I suspect that the lowest would be the same as HD low shield.

This would be a great set up for me, but the screen would be still too short for myself. I guess the ideal set uo would be that the adjustable screen would go up to 22" and then in the high and low position it should work for just about all riders.

Thanks again for the pix!
