Cyril,
Depending on the driving conditions and the ambient temperature, I'd say my SEUC averages about 215-220 in normal riding conditions, around 225 in low-speed around town and I've seen it as high as 275 during Stop and Go (mainly stop) in DC rush hour in the summer with ambient temps in the lower 90's.  That was when I had Syn3 in the bike, I've since switched to Mobil 1 V-Twin, and supposedly, from what others have said on this site, I should expect to see a little cooler temps.  I haven't really had a good chance to see.  When we were in Tennessee with 70 degree weather, my temps running through the back roads and in the mountains was running around 210-215.  Hope this helps a little.

Are you seeking comparison from one of the digital dipsticks with the sensor in it?  Or have you replaced the ambient air temp gauge in the dash with an oil temp gauge?  Just wondering where you're trying to compare readings from.

Sender for mine is in the pan.  But not all are.  And the readings can vary.

I've got the oil temp gauge that has the sensor in the oil pan. During my ride back from Las Vegas this past Sunday during the heat of the day, the temp read 230 degrees and didn't get above it. During traffic it reads near 240. I can live with that. Also, no leaks on the second engine. Also, to my surprise I averaged 42 mpg.  A good day in my book! My wifes bike didn't fair so well. It's in the shop.

The temp on a SEEG (103") is lower than that on a 110".  There has been a lot posted on this issue, back when the 110 first came out....if you want to do a search.

I peaked out to 265 last weekend going through Napa in stop n' go traffic on a 100 degree day. She ran a solid 235-240 when we got on the fwy. I've been told by someone with a Baker 6QT temps will run about 10 degrees cooler. If true this is significant probably worth doing. Anyone install one yet? And are there any good deals anywhere?

Under these conditions, the temps and the traffic, the dealers will tell this these temps are normal. From what I understand, 265 degres is considered HOT and oil starts to break down at this temp. Tell me how this is normal?????

I use the dash gauge

I just got a 110 and it runs hotter than ever. It is the lean fuel mixture for EPA. Everyone with a 110 needs to get the mixture under control. Down around 13.8 to 1. See nightrider for easy fixes.Your temp problems should go away.

Normal operating temperature (not stop and go traffic, but normal riding) is 230-240°F.  If you get no higher than 265°F, you're doing just fine.  And the reason you need to use synthetic motor oil versus dino oil is that dino oil does in fact start breaking down at lower temps than synthetic.  A good synthetic like Amsoil or Mobil 1 laughs at 300°F and keeps right on lubricating.

I think I'll start considering synthetics as i am getting concerned about thiese high temps.  I didn't realize the synthetics could withstand up to 300 degrees. I have an Amsoil dealer a few doors down thats been bugging me for over two years to buy his oil. What should i expect to pay per quart for the Amsoil?
