Wife made me call the owner of the dealer we go to.
« on: May 25, 2008, 09:18:30 PM »

Over the past few months I've been having problems with my ride, Check eng light ( 3 times ) vibs on the floor boards and fairing ( vib just started right before the last time I took it in), Taking off from a light it would want to stall and burp out the air cleaner, (this was off and on). I had a oil temp gauge install in the place of the air temp gauge. ( didn't work after they install it ) So I put it in the shop 3 WEEKS ago so I can get the damn thing fixed, I also told them that the Eng problems started after the last time they tuned and dyno it, So i told them I wanted it redone. I  also wanted it ready for Rolling Thunder. Well I picked it up Saturday morning after 3 weeks of sitting at the dealer. They told me the engine ran fine, the oil temp gauge works, they reset the codes for the eng light and the vibs were normal and that they rode the bike for 100 miles or so to see if they found any problems. Also one guy took it home for the night to see if he saw anything.

On my the ride home after picking it up, the oil temp gauge still didn't work, still ran like crap and it stalled on me once, and of coarse the vib was still there. I was pissed when I got home, told the wife about it and she is the one that said call the owner, So I did. With in 30 Min's after going off on the owner about his service department, they call me back and would like the bike back in the shop ASAP, so they can try to fix it again. The manager that call me, happens to be the one that took it home. During his ride, the check eng light came on, the bike ran like crap and he felt the vibs. Then he tells me the next morning when he was bring it back to work, the bike ran fine.
Before the wife told me to call the owner, I was just planning on going to a different dealer since everything is still under warranty. So I'll give them one last chance since the owner is involved now.

Cowboy, I'm sorry to hear of your problems.
Just one note on the temp gauge, I had mine installed in the fairing also and they did so according to the instructions. That means that the sending unit that 'reads' the tempature is in the oil return line and not in the oil pan. Being in the line gives you a much lower reading than if it were in the pan. It lead me to think that mine was not working until it was 90 degrees out and the needle finally moved.

When I was talking to the manger on the phone, He told me Harley just came out with a SB for a fix this past week ( there is a problem ). I also have the dipstick gauge, its about 110 degree off from the other gauge.

Cowboy - Sorry to hear about your problems, when I had the oil temp guage installed in my '07 SEUG the same thing happened and I had to take it back 4 times, the only way I got it fixed was to pull instructions from this board to take to the dealer for a different way to install vs the instructions which does no work.

Cowboy,

What does the SB address?  When starting off from a light or stop sign, mine also has burped thru the AC.  It acts like a cold engine even after riding for quite awhile.  HD tells me the only way to cure it is to install a Stage 1 kit.  Please post the info from the SB.
