While in NC recently....
« on: May 20, 2005, 10:39:51 AM »

Some of you folks had full size tour packs on your SEEGs....

Is that something the dealer can get, or did you have to find it, then have it painted to match your colors..??

Wendy's on this one...She misses the "comfort" of my old '93 FLHTC's rear back/armrest along with the cushier rear seating....

I could get either the chopped or full for my '04.  Since all the pieces are seperate I would assume you could do the same for your '05.  Painted from the factory.

Say hi to Windy for me!

Ron,
The King Tour Pak in teal is HD part number 53172-05BSH .  The online description will tell you that it will only work with the chopped back size back rest.  It'll work with the full sized King backrest as well.  It just doesn't have the holes for it already drilled out of the box.

The King sized pak comes with all the hinges and other hardware on the pak itself except for the lock.  The part numbers you'll need to complete the lock hardware are :

53574-93A, 53617-85, 84850-92, 90686-92

All the lock parts together come to about $25.00.  You'll need to know your "key number."  Shoud be with the docs that came with the bike.  Give them that when you order the lock parts and the new tumbler will be keyed to match your existing locks.  As a bonus you'll even get a couple of new keys.

If you decide to use the same backrest as is on the chopped pak (because it matches the seat) that part number is 52435-05.  On mine I had Corbin supply a full sized backrest that matched the seat.  The full sized King pak backrests will work.  You just have be brave enough to drill holes in the new tour pak's lid.

The other thing you'll need to complete the tour pak will be the detachable rack assembly itself.  As a complete kit with all the hardware it is part number 53276-04 .

Thanks....The link supplied shows a good pic. It looks like I can do this, just have to water the money tree a little.

Don - here's a thought. I have Sargents here in Jax and they do an assume job of seat redesign or restich. I had them take my '93 FLH "pillow top" seat and rebuild it smooth with some gel inserts...came out better than the newer Harley FLHTC seats...IMO.

At any rate, perhaps they could emulate the stock '05 SEEG seat's pattern...maybe..

Or I could get all new Corbin seat with full tour pack back/armrest. Whew...it's only money...

Thanks for the part numbers....Now I'll go into sticker shock and look around..

Check Hales HD or Chicago HD for their 20% off.  Those parts will add up to enough that 20% will be a good chunk of change.

Something else I just thought of.....

I would probably not use the chop pack anymore, provided I had the full all done right, thus I wonder if I could use whatever hardware off of it to complete the full pack..

What cha' think..?? Any savings there..??

This is interesting.  I ordered the 04 King Tour Pack for the 04 FLHTCSE and it came painted to match, two tone, flames and all.....as well as the lock and a map pouch.  I did have to order the liner, luggage rack, King Tour Pack Backrest and docking hardware (for quick release) seperate.

I wonder why the 05 does not come painted to match or without the lock?

The 05 does come as a paint to match.  The part number for Phattey's green one listed above is the teal paint to match piece.  It's complete except for the lock.

I was assuming they weren't including the lock because they wouldn't know what tumbler set to give you to match your bike.   And since the other three little pieces all attach to the tour pak lid in some way or another held in place by the attachment to the tumbler ass'y you don't get those either.   Made sense to me anyway   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Sure, if you do that all you need is the pak itself.  Swap the detachable rack beneath the old one to the new one and swap the lock parts from one lid to the other.  It's all a direct swap.

The pak itself is the lion's share of the expense though.  The lock parts were about $25.00 and the detachable rack kit was $150.00.  Those are the "sticker" prices not the 20% off prices.

So, assuming you're getting the bigger backrest anyway, you're only not spending another $140.00 and that money gives you the option of having either tour pak on.  FWIW, the big tour pak is great for hauling more stuff.  Really like it a lot for that.  The bigger passenger backrest has been a favored item as well.  But the chopped back does look better.

I've watched a couple of red chopped paks go on eBay in the $450.00 to $525.00 range.  So that's the return possibility.  Which way one ends up going depends on the normal choices, how much does he or she like the looks of one versus the other, how much will it get used, is the expense an option and/or justified.

Don - As usual...good points.

When we aren't using the chopped pack, we use a Road King tall backrest in it's place...It actually looks really good. She likes the comfort over the small backrest that it came with. It's good for shorter trips...Daytona, or cruising around, but the tour pak is a must for any distance...

Plus the SEEG factory "smallish" back rest pad fits on there. So I have a more sleek look, plus keep the seat pattern going. Of course the tall or larger backrest pad feels better to her, but I have to draw the line... [smiley=laugh.gif]

So...I think I have the "look" thing all figured out ...now I just need money and the time...

Abso-frigging-lutely.   Not just the location.  My old one is pretty specifically identifiable because of the types of plugs I used and the method of attachment I used for them when filling and painting the holes that the anteanna mount originally went through.  So I can spot that sucker  [smiley=laugh.gif]
