« on: May 28, 2008, 05:16:22 PM »

The lid on my tour pak is rubbing holes in the bottom took to dealer and they took pictures and submitted to HD. HD declined it said its not a warranty item . Has anybody else had this problem and how did you get it rectified? Any help would be appreciated.

Black electrical tape over the rub points  :2vrolijk_21:

If that's what you mean by "bottom"?

Just had mine replaced under warranty for the 2nd time.
This makes tour pak #3.
The first was replaced after a HD Rep looked at it and taken some pictures.
When the 2nd did the same thing the dealer denied warranty.
I complained to HD Customer service. They asked for pictures I took and emailed to them then they authorized warranty.
It was just replaced today.
Call customer service and complain.

Ok, here's a twist. Anyone taken off the crappy leather on the tour pack and just had it painted to match the bike. I'd like to know if anyone has done this and pics would be greatly appreciated. I think it would look great!  Thoughts??

It would be cheaper and smarter to just get a king tour pack off ebay instead of all that work!  I hate this little rattle trap of a tour pack...and apparntley so did everyone else. That's why they put them on the SE's, to get rid of them.  Who would pay $1500 for that peice of crap?

If you don't believe it, explain why they went back to a king?

Call Jenni. I got a plain KTP new for my SERK and it wasn't too bad. I just got the one with no lights at all. Chrome strips come in place of sidelights. Rest of it is plain. It comes complete with the latches, hinges, mat, pocket, and wire stay cable. Unless you get a super deal on a used one, it's worth buying new. I think around $600 but don't hold me to it. Add any luggage racks and mounting racks to that if ya need them too. ;)

Well, that's a thought. Just buy a new one. Anyway, just thought if I already have one, tear the leather off and repaint might be a bit cheaper. Maybe not! This way it would have the stock look, but painted which in my book would look a whole bunch better.

To me, it's more about space.  It seems to me that you can get so much more in a KTP

Not so much about space for me. I've got a Bushtec if I need more room. But, the Ninja turtle leather tour pak is just butt ugly. I wonder if it could be painted. I guess with enough monies, anything can be done.  :huepfenlol2:  Maybe I should cover my Bushtec in leather so that everything matches.  .  .  . NOT!  :P
