Picked up the recovered side covers from the upholstery shop this afternoon.  Nice little shop had them in and out from one day to the next.  Surprising amount of stitching in these things when I got them off and began to look at them closely.  Shop still only charged $40 to do the work though.  It completes the color scheme nicely.  No more black spot interruping the palette.

Here's before:

And here's with side panels redone:

A little tighter view.  Not much different really.  Just doing the proud owner thing I guess.

Looks, good, damn good!  Would love to see your bike in person. Great saddle.  Like the under/around bottom of tour pak cover idea a lot.

Really ties it all together TwoLane.  8) Did that cover come 'stock' on the bike or was it a custom app.?  :nixweiss: spyder

The black ones are a stock part for 00 and 01 SERGS

They fit the older style tour-pak racks replaced a few years ago

Expensive suckers if you can find em too. There's four separate P/N's that go into a pair.

Don gets kudos for thinking of re-covering them.

Will ask my buddy what he did with his - not on his 01 SERG not sure why. Maybe they were damaged in his wreck.

Don's bike looks great - may look into something for the jester similar.

Thanks Brian.  I didn't even know they were real expensive new.  The leather pieces off this pair actually came off cleanly.  They could be stapled right back down if one were so inclined.  But I'd lucked out six weeks or so ago and scored an NOS pair of the outer covers on eBay for $15.00 plus freight.  So I've still got a good set of stock parts.  Used the red vinyl here on the old set that had been on the bike for nine years and still have the new ones that have never seen weather stored in their box.

I thought it seemed a bit extravagent to have about a hundred bucks total tied up in redoing these.  But if they expensive pieces new maybe it's not such a bad comparative total after all.  It certainly did a nice job of tieing it all together though.

Thank you iski.  Those side covers were always one of the little things that attracted me about these bikes.  In black with a black saddle especially they do really blend in.  These bikes were several years old before I realized there was actually something different there.  Once this saddle got here the black covers were screaming to get recovered to match though.

No reason a decent auto upholstery shop couldn't do something similar.  But you'd not be able to with the SERG parts.  The newer post-04 tour pak racks are different and these would not come close to working.

No particular one could not get one of the older style tour pak racks.  They had a little cracking issue that has to be kept watch on.  It's a nice little addition to look at though.

Like a lot of other stuff I've given him over the years, Bubba_T has a set of the side panels sittin around gathering dust somewhere at his house.

You made me curious about what they might be to replace.  Four part numbers to get everything one would need new:

53189-00 @ $70 per or @ $56 at one of the 20% off shops
53190-00 @ $70 per or @ $56 at one of the 20% off shops
53198-00 @ $30 per or @ $24 at one of the 20% off shops
53199-00 @ $30 per or @ $24 at one of the 20% off shops

So all four pieces at $160 if one used one of the 20% parts shops.

At list retail, over $200 with tax. Like I said, expensive suckers  :o

We have a few upholstery shops around - will do some checking - the jester would need a little different style but think it might work. Will print out your pics as a reference since my ability to explain this would never be as good as your pics.

As the proud new owner of the jester (in 07) with leather tour pack, I noticed the MoCo "forgot" to finish it with the piece that drops down, behind the passenger's back, that covers up the ug-buttly area under the tp & the rear fender.  May get that piece done as well. Of course the Moco "forgot" a few other things about this bike, so am just glad I did not have to pay extra for luxuries like axle nuts.....

Your bike looks damn good, Don.  Damn good!   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks very much.  I've become quite proud of it in the few months I've had it.  It is much more minimalist compared to the SEEG. But intentionally so.  Though that's a very relative when you consider how it starts and what it's compared to there.

Fortunately I've not had to nor chosen to do a great deal to this one. It got the seat.  Vast improvement in comfort and riding position with the looks being the added bennie.  Hung the factory alarm system on it too.  Rebuilt all the hydraulics, finished chroming out the stuff on the handlebars and took off the old worn out grips to use the SAC's that had had to come off the SEEG.  It also got the SEEGs old Progressive 440 rear shocks.  Throw in the windshield and that's about it.  With that it has become a very very nice riding machine whose looks I'm very pleased with.
