I too run Amsoil. I buy a couple of cases at a time when the motorcycle show is in town. Cash deal out behind the truck in the parking deck gets the best prices.

I use the Harley filter and buy 5 or 6 at a time for 20% off when I order other parts on-line.

There are plenty of options out there, but none of us can actually prove one is better than the other.

You will see most of the people on this site run, Amsoil, Mobile 1 and Red Line. As far as filters go. Hd, Amsoil and K&N are the most popular,

Hope this helps.

Picking up the manuals when you get the bike is also a good thing. They are a wealth of information.

TDW,

Aftermarket fluids and filters won't affect your warranty (well, most won't anyway - stay away from the unconventional stuff like the roll of toilet paper in a cannister filters).  I personally like the K&N filters, both air and oil, and highly recommend them.  As for fluids, I personally like Mobil 1 in the engine and Redline Shockproof Heavy in the trans.  The primary isn't critical as long as whatever you use is compatible with a wet clutch.  I use Mobil 1 just to eliminate having another fluid sitting around, but I've also used the H-D stuff in the past.  Your choice of Amsoil is excellent, and it also can be used in the primary (and trans for that matter, but I prefer a dedicated trans lube).

I don't think you'll go wrong with any of the oils mentioned here.  I use Mobil 1 V-Twin, but primarily from the stand point that it's easier to find if needed, on the road.  Just about every Trac Auto, Pep Boys, Western Auto, some WalMarts, etc., carry Mobil 1 V-Twin.  JMO.

K&N makes two oil filters for TC motors:  KN-171C, which is chrome, and KN-171B, which is black.  The 17mm nut on the end of the filter makes it so much easier to remove.  Highly recommended.

Amsoil fluids and K&N filters :2vrolijk_21: At the shop we stopped using the Amsoil oil fliter as I had several that loosened up on there own from the filter mount.

Ditto on the above.  K&N oil filter with the nut on the end :2vrolijk_21:

I use Mobil 1 V-Twin oil in the crank case & primary for the same reason mentioned above - easier to find if you need it out on the road.

I am running Mobil 1 in the engine, Redline Shockproof Heavy and the Redline Primary Case - 2003 SERK...  Big difference over the Mobil 1 in all three...  Shifts are much smoother - neutral easier.  I am really pleased.  Using an HD Chrome Filter and have one more after this, but will switch to the K&N - the nut on the end would be a lot easier then using a filter wrench, it was a PIA.

I just got this bike, so it is all new to me.

All good stuff, I picked up 8% in mpg with the MobilV over synlube; 33 mpg last week commuting to work...
RLSP in trans, easier neutral, less clunky..
Cain't tell what the RL primary juice has done...
