... for the CCS/ASRA Nationals ...
Doing my usual thing ... filming.
In the 2-cylinder category, the Buells didn't fare to well ... Nate Kern was there with his BMW ... he's incredible.
Anywhooo ... I was standing there in Turn-1 for the 4-cylinder, 600 cc, Amatuer Supersport class race ...
We call that the "meatgrinder class" as that's where you really graduate from the tiny bikes to the big bikes ... and the Amatuers are generally big on "guts & devotion" ... and "still working on" skill ...
The two guys in orange are my friends (and team-mates). The Third guy is Larry Karpinski.
The second video is Larry Karpinski's on-board video.
http://www.magicratvideos.com/magicvideos/video/CraigAndBen/CraigAndBen.html http://www.magicratvideos.com/magicvideos/video/KarpinskyOnboard/KarpinskyOnboard.html Ben and Craig (my friends) both shook it off and were right back out there for the next race. Larry Karpinski, who is sick fast and prolly would have won, hurt his shoulders ... he did not race again that day (previous injury ... and this aggrivated it).
The guy that caused it had a false nuetral (he's a nice fellow ... I know him, too). He got no engine brake and had no power. He tried to get out of peoples way (self preservation kept him from driving off on the infield at that speed ... can't say I blame him). He was found at fault and had to start at the back of the grid for the re-start (obviously, there was a red flag).
Lotta emotion in the pits after that one, for sure. Pretty much all good, tho ... except for Larry, as he was hurt bad enough not to be able to race anymore that day. He's OK, tho (I only post videos with "happy endings").
Ben, who was one of the guys that went down, said it best (I think): "By the time most of that stuff happens five things already happened two seconds ago that made it inevitable."
It's all so fast, you can't even think.
