Absolutely...
1977-14 years old, riding a suzuki on/off road with big balloon tires at about 50+ mph through a field, the grass was about waist high, coming up on a barbed wire fence I turned to the right when a 2-3 foot ditch caught the front tire and flung me through the barbed wire fence. I rode over the first strand, the second strand snapped from the handlebars, the top strand came over the handlebars and snapped just as it made contact with my neck...the first thought going through my mind was- "dear God, don't let my mom see me beheaded". The next thing I know, I am lying on my back surrounded by dogs in a field, the dogs were licking my face and neck where the barbed wire sliced me. My dad came out, finished his burger and beer and helped me to the truck. We went to the hospital where I had 43 stitches put in the slices on my neck and left jaw. No one really notices the scars...
may 10 1990, heading 29 North out of Opal/Fauquier County area doing 60+...the new bypass had just been completed weeks before which is what I was on. I was riding beside a Beretta with a nice looking blonde behind the wheel, I was on a 1986 Honda Nighthawk. She looked over and smiled and accellerated, so I accellerated. What I did not know was that around the next turn there had been an accident from a police chase, I hit oil, gravel, glass ect. doing approx. 100 mph, the bike was fishtailing pretty heavily when it caught the left side of the rear tire on the lip of the road, flinging the bike over to the right. My right leg got trapped between the asphalt and gas tank, forcing my knee into it. The bike and I began to tumble, then slide down the road. I finally let go after the second tumble turned into a slide. When I came to rest, all of the vehicles around me at the time (6:15 a.m. morning rush hour) the girl riding beside me came over and held my hand till the ambulance got there. A cool guy in a VW bus said "dude, I think your bike is o.k.". My helmet (full face) was full of gravel, having scooped it along the slide. I had alot of road rash, crushed right wrist, my right fibula just above the ankle was in numerous pieces, my left wrist was dislocated...other than that I was unharmed! It took me about 5 months to regain full (or almost full) range of motion, and I still have a little pain now and again, but the angels were definitely with me! There were several times as a teenage passenger in a cage that I luckily walked away too...stories for another time perhaps.
Very nice thread Capo!
