Angels are all around us-do you believe?
« on: June 01, 2008, 01:35:34 PM »

So I do and no big deal whether you do or not.

I crashed my buddies 1970 CB350 when I was 17 back in Summer of '73 in Pine Grove, PA. No way I would be here except for my Angel, Speedo was stuck at 62mph after the impact with a cement culvert curb. Bike with me on it went straight up in the air (my buddy was following in my Vega) and I fell off and landed, looking up in time to roll to the side as the bike landed where I had been lying. All over in less than 12 or so slow motion seconds. Bike was totalled with the front wheel bent to the hub-both and fork tubes bent back to the frame down tubes which were pushed into the engine. Had Honda dealer replace the frame and switch the good parts and then sold the bike the next year after less than 100 miles.
Great lesson in riding limitations and faith for me.

Please share if you care to

Two years ago on the way home from Sturgis, on Interstate 90 in Minnesota, with the cruise control set at 80mph, and with no helmet on -I hit a deer.  My buddy who was riding behind me, and my wife who saw the accident from the drivers seat of my other friends van (with my buddies wife and two kids on board), say I did two 360's before I let go of the bike.  Then I tumbled for almost 200 feet - and walked away.  I never hit my head once.  I had a separated shoulder, cracked sternum, I cracked a bone in my wrist and broke some fingers.  I had bruised lungs, but I walked away.  I was pretty leathered up, lost no skin and never hit my head once.  So, yes I do.  Now my bike (a 2004 Orange/Black SEEG), god rest its soul, may think otherwise....   :2vrolijk_20: :stars:  :ons_5: :beerchug: :ons_1: :wings: :engel017:

You Bet!  22 yrs in Spec Ops ?  I was on a first name basis with at least a 1/2 a dozen for a lot of years...

Carried 'em on my bike too!   KZ900R,  with a frame mount Vetter fairing.  140 plus, (pegged speedo), night ride to clear the mind after and arguement with the wife, and the fairing split in half and corkscrewed the bike in the air, twice before it hit the  ground, (i think, but I don't know, there was just me and no-one watching and I was a bit busy...),   Shorts, no shirt, no helmet, tenny runners....     Rode it to a stop like a skateboard.  Not a scratch on me.  Melted a corner of my tenny on the pipes.  Holy crap!  and then I just left it there and walked home.  I think I was still shaking when I got there.   I dressed differently after that.

Extremely interesting thread topic, Capo! :2vrolijk_21:  Ten "yes" votes and only 3 stories . . . hopefully, we'll see more.  Here's mine:

Headed home from work one night on my '02 EG Classic.  Crossed the IL river into Pekin, IL on Rt. 9 and on the bridge saw a bike pulled over on the shoulder.  I slowed down with the intention of stopping to see if he needed help.  Didn't even come to a complete stop before he waved me on, so I kept going.  At the end of the bridge is a stoplight.  It was green as I approached when all of a sudden a pickup truck comes barreling through the intersection from the left, running what was, for him, a red light.  Had that biker (angel?) not been on the bridge on that day at that time and had I not slowed for that fraction of time to see if he needed help, I have no doubt in my mind I would have been collected by the grille of that Ford truck that evening.

Angels.  They are real.

Hey Capo,

I'm not one to discuss my religious view point because I've discovered that whatever it is, it'll pi$$ somebody off who can't shut up and let everyone have there own view point!  But I'll chance it and say I'm an agnostic who's had an intersting experience on a Honda CB650 in 1989.  I was tired of my buddyy always beeting me to the turn with his Yamaha Seca 750 so this one time I refused to shut the throttle off until I got passed him.  Then I got air on a knuckle in the road and couldn't whoa it down in time to make the turn.  So I left the road at about 50 heading right for a tree, locked both wheels on the dirt shoulder and kept it upright and stopped on dirt from 50 in 15 feet, just an inch from the tree, without any damage to anything except my underwear.  I wouldn't have believed it my self except my buddy corroborated the story right down to the speed we were traveling.  Angels?  Don't know.  As I said I'm agnostic, but I live a Christian life in that I do unto others as I would like done unto me and never ever to I judge others or cast stones at them.  So maybe the angels are there and decided if I wasn't an official member of the team I deserved a hand up.

So why did I share this story?  Well, this happened on Schuylkill Mountain Road, 6 miles from Pine Grove PA.

Interesting topic and even more interesting poll.

Those who have been here for three or four years are well aware of my views on this and the accident that I had......   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=613.0

Not fun laying up in the hospital for months, in a wheelchair for months, rehab and therapy and ten people's life time of PAIN but I finally got through all the surgeries........then again, more recently, laying out there in the ocean off Key West, flat on my back, in so much pain I couldn't even raise my arm to signal for help.....wondering if that's how it all ends for this old soul.  Yes, I believe in angels and in God! :2vrolijk_21:

I'll add another yes vote;

On a lunch break I decided to take the bike out for a short put, 1979 FXS with a wideglide FL Sidecar front end +2 tubes, 21" front wheel and 18" apes. Getting off the freeway at about 40 mph just lean into the off ramp when I see a LARGE pot hole. No time to react as I am leaned into the turn and decide i'm going to hit it. When the front wheel came back to the ground it lost traction due to the lean angle and dumped me on the ground. Wearing a sweatshirt, vest and jeans and a beanie helmet. I hit my shoulder so hard the I dislocated it out to the rear. I have no idea how I did not hit my head or face, not a scratch on the helmet. Minor road rash on the arms and knees. I have always said I had the hand of God holding my head up that day!

I'm not sure I deserve it, but the lord isn't through with me yet.

In 2002 I was driving my sports car way too fast for conditions and hydroplaned off the road.  It was on I-70 in Kansas and the road was as straight as an arrow.  Just miss a culvert and stopped just short of hitting a bridge.  I was ok, two Christian ladies gave me a ride home in the rain and we talked about the what if ???

In 2004 I was stopped in the road on my VROD waiting to make a turn and someone passed me in my lane on the right.  The impact took off my right foot peg, rear brake, and right front fork.  However, my right leg was unharmed.  I’m not even sure how that was physically possible.

In 2005 I spent 358 days in Iraq.  Too many stories I’m not ready to share, yet here I am.

LOL...  No, but I know the one you're talking about.  Sch. Mt. Road runs between Freidensburg (Rt. 443) and Reedsville (Rt. 183).  It's about 6 miles east of Pine Grove.

The road your referring to is on the other side of Pine Grove and it's the crotch rocket kids' playground these days.  I can't remember the name of it now which is awful, cause my band used to practice on that road right at the bottom of the mountain.  Guess it's good I have a geezer glide since I appear to be having a case of old timers disease!  :-[

Is that where you had your wreck?  If so you ARE lucky to have walked away.  We loose one or two riders a year on that road. Usually crotch rockets.

Ride Safe,
J-Carr
