3 out of 4 major sports teams in the finals.

That's quite a feat in one year

GO CELTICS !

Long way to MV Neal, don't gloat to much or too early.

The Yanks might wise up, fire Giradi and win a few games.

The fact that the Yankees Brass hired Giradi in the first place shows that "The Boss" isn't running the show anymore. George would no sooner hire a guy like Giradi to manage A-Rod, Jeeter, and the rest than shoot himself. Giradi made out managing a bunch of rooks in Florida, but this ain't Florida and these guys ain't rooks. Giradi's a boat anchor on the Yanks and they're gonna drag a$$ until they get rid of him.

Well for me I am a fair weather Celtics Fan...I gave up on them in 1989 when I was in UCONN Grad school and learned how much fun College BB was...the pros seemed to be "walking through" every game...college was played with intensity and desire.  So I stopped watching pro BB and concentrated on College for about 15 years.  Then College BB changed...the better players were leaving College early if they even went.  The last year I really watched was Okafor's last year at UCONN when he left one year early...BUT he graduated in three years!

Of the Pro BB teams, the Celtics were my favorite so I renewed my interest when they started doing well last fall.  But my first love was Football followed by Baseball.

Being from central CT, we have no sports teams of our own so loyalty either goes to NY or BOS...my street was funny, my side was BOS fans and the other side was NY (Mets & Yanks) fans but it was also along racial lines...all the NY fans were italian and all the BOS fans were eastern european.  Maybe Yaz had something to do with that but who knows.

So, I grew up a Red Sox fan for Baseball and until the strike year of 1994, I followed faithfully but then went on strike on 8/4 when they were on strike...and never watched another game until Anne dragged me to one in 2004.

For Football, I was born to be a Giants fan...thanks to my Godfather.  I think that came across this year when I could not bet against them in that last game of the reg. season.

So, this year could be a "Banner" year for me!

Well I'm a true New Englander except for the Yankees. Patriots, Celtics, Bruins all the way. My grandfather and father were Yankee fans so I was. I actually tried making the change to the BOSOX in the mid 80's cause I liked Clemens so much, but Buckner cured me of that.

Funny thing is Don, when it was Bird,McHale,Pistol Pete,Walton,Ainge,JoJo, Chief against Magic, Kareem and Worthy, I rooted for the Celts, but loved the Lakers too. And before that, I always like West, Wilt  all of those guys.  Just can't cozy up to Kobe and this group. I wonder if the older Laker fans feel the same way about Garnett and company ?

I was the same way with the Celtics.  That group especially.  But can remember them as far back as the late 60s and that tremendous run of championships they strung together.  I'd root for them against anyone but the Lakers.

It was just hard not to like an organization like that Auerbach ran.  Or not appreciate the likes of Bill Russell.

The Celts have had such a rough stretch the last few years.  Not the soap opera that's beset the Lakers.  But certainly a rough time.  It's made it hard to keep up with them.  And I never cared for Ainge as player.  So as team builder just never paid attention.

Am looking forward to this series though.  I'll be rooting for my Lakers.  But it's going to be a lot of fun watching these two teams go at each other again.

Just noticed that.  Speaking for myself only it's not that I have any particular dislike for them as part of the team.  But since I didn't follow the team closely I kind of don't think of them as Celtics yet.  All transplants all at the same time.

How does the Boston press and the local fan base accept them?  Is there a carpetbagger thing at all?  Or have they as players and men had the courtesy to accept the history that has to be that team and the men that are still its legacies and be a part of it all?

In Boston Don, you're either a winner or a loser. No gray area, no in between. I suspect that even those that still come to games in a Cousey,Russell or Havlecheck shirt love this new breed of winners.

Just out of curiosity, this is the first time the Celts have been in the NBA finals without their notorious 6th man (the old Garden parquet floor) Correct ?

21 years. Wow, it seems like yesterday.  Bird and Magic, Worthy and McHale. Ainge the mad bomber (now everybody throws up threes)  Kareem ( was there ever anyone better ? )  Anybody know what JoJo's been up to ?

And Pistol Pete playin for St. Peter. I think that's the hardest to think about.
